Barnabas nods. “Yes, I’d love to toast to that.”

“Oh no,” my bound exclaims.

My uncle and I both look at her with concern.

“My water just broke,” Emma whimpers, with her hand on her swollen belly. “I think you two need to take me to the hospital. This baby is arriving, right now.”

My uncle stands from the couch with a wide grin on his face. “Looks like I arrived just in time.”

And later that night, in the main hospital, my daughter arrives. A gorgeous half-human, half-Hyrrokin infant with blue eyes and fire churning in her belly. My bound names our daughter Grace Blackstone, saying that her arrival is a blessing. And I have to agree.

I hold my daughter in my arms and kiss her tiny forehead, grateful for my freedom and the love that surrounds me.
