Fynn cleared his throat. “The whole telepathy thing you two have going on is fascinating, but we’d like to be in on the conversation as well.”

“Yeah. Especially when it has Lokene, of all beings, looking distressed. That isn’t a good sign for the rest of us,” Kye added.

“The Ancients are questioning Lokene’s abilities as an ambassador. They are trying to decide whether they should send a female to appeal to my mind, or a male to appeal to my desires. All this in hopes I will bend to their will faster,” I stated bluntly.

My human mates stared at me, slack-jawed. Lokene groaned and pressed his forehead against the glass window that looked out onto the city of Atlantis.

“I don’t understand. I have given my word that I would help them. Why do they doubt me?” I ground my teeth in frustration.

“Because they want you to act now. Things are growing worse,” Lokene answered, voice tired. “There is reason to suspect that more Ancients have been infected with the Lure, and things in our world continue to shift. I’ve tried to explain in the past that we don’t see everything about the future, but rather we see multiple possible outcomes. Lately, those possible outcomes are becoming more devastating, and the chances of this ending well seem to become less likely.”

“I needed a few days to recover with my mates and ensure things with Atlantis and the human governments were decided. Is that so much to ask? I’m not shirking my oath or my duty. I just need a chance to feed and rest.” My frustration with the Ancients was growing by the hour. Lokene could be exasperating, but seeing my jokester of a mate constantly tired and anxious was alarming.

“Ignore the Ancients and take all the time you need, Soyale. You need to listen to your body.” Lokene turned and pulled me into his embrace.

I tried to relax, but the tension continued building in my chest, unsettling me. Lokene was still hiding something, and I hated it.

“What aren’t you telling me?” I murmured against Lokene’s chest.

“Nothing that you need to worry about, Soyale.” He buried his face in my hair. His hold on me tightened. The slight tremble in his arms dug up the unease I’d tried to bury.

“You’re lying,” Kye stated flatly. “I don’t have your superpowers, but I know a lie when I hear one.”

“Of course he is lying,” a feminine voice purred.

Lokene stiffened, trying to pin me against him, but I scrambled free and spun around, blades in hand, ready to face the unknown intruder.

A woman sauntered from the shadows, hips swaying seductively. Her pale blonde hair fell to her waist, and her piercing eyes were so light blue they were nearly see-through. She focused on me before her gaze traveled the rest of the room. There was no question in my mind. The woman was an Ancient.

I tried to take a step toward her, hoping to position myself between her and my mates, but my body refused to obey my commands. Around the room, my mates stood frozen as well. Unable to move, I was forced to watch as she circled each of my mates in turn, her eyes traveling the full length of their bodies in a way that had fire burning in my veins.

The willowy blonde moved closer to Storm, her body just brushing against his. She stopped when their lips were inches apart. The siren in me thrashed against the invisible confines to get at this woman who dared to invade my castle and stand so close to my men. I struggled against the magik holding me in place.

“I wouldn’t touch them, Lily.” Lokene’s voice was sharp as a knife blade.

“I can do as I please. None of you are able to stop me.” She glanced at Lokene as she spoke, her bottom lip sticking out as she pouted. “Not even you, Lokene. You made the Ancients quite unhappy by departing from the meeting the way you did, and now they are working together to ensure you don’t get in our way.”

“Our?” Lokene growled.

She laughed, the sound a husky purr that could no doubt make people of any gender grow weak in the knees. It had the opposite effect on me. “Yeah, they plan to send Bion to seduce the siren into doing their will since you are unable to do the job.” Her eyes dropped to Lokene’s crotch, and she shook her head as though he’d disappointed her.

Lily’s attention turned back to Storm, and her hand trailed up his chest. My teeth ground together, and my body twitched, magik forcing me back into place.

“Lily, stop. If you were sent to befriend Zosime, you are doing a really poor job of it. She is going to kill you, Ancient or not,” Lokene warned, and I thought I detected wicked glee in his voice.

He wasn’t wrong. I was going to kill her and not bat an eye while doing it if she didn’t take her hands away from my mate.MINE.

“I was sent to convince her by whatever means necessary. Maybe if I take one of her mates as mine, she will be inclined to come to save him. I’ve heard she loves a good rescue.” Lily’s hand traveled up Storm’s neck.

Storm’s body stiffened at her touch, and anger overflowed his mind, pouring into mine. Lily may have thought herself a sexy seductress, capable of seducing any man she wished, but Storm was repulsed by her advances. Her abilities at seduction were nothing compared to the siren in me. I struggled against the magik, ignoring the pain stabbing my body as I continued fighting its hold.

Leaning forward, Lily held her lips just centimeters from Storm’s mouth. “And if she doesn’t come to claim him, I’ll be happy to keep him. He looks delicious.”

She was going to kiss him. Another woman was about to taste the lips that belonged to me.

She was an idiot.

A very dead idiot.
