“Oh no. I am shaking with fear.” Rolling my eyes, I began pulling supplies from my pack. “I’m not leaving this world until I have tracked down the tainted Ancients and ended this. Plus, I doubt my other mates will be eager to see me after I snuck away from them during the night.”

I grabbed my pack, unzipping it as I added, “This is not the first time I’ve been forced to camp while tracking an enemy.”

Dried fruit, meats, and bottled water.

Bion gave a horrified shriek, and I jumped up, ready to defend him from a dog-sized spider.

Only there was no spider.

Instead, Bion’s attention was focused on the rations I had laid out, as though they were pet food.

“Surely you don’t intend to eat that stuff?” Bion asked, voice incredulous.

I stared at the food in consternation. “Of course I do. What’s wrong with them?”

“Everything?” Bion responded, more a question than a statement.

“I brought enough for both you and Lokene.” Unwrapping the food, I held out a piece of jerky out toward Bion. He shied away from it as though it were a venomous snake.

“No, thank you, but thank you for the offer?” Again, Bion sounded as though he were asking a question.

I turned to Lokene, preparing to offer him the meat.

Lokene shook his head and held up his hands. “Soyale, let me make dinner.”

I watched as platters of perfectly cooked meat, bread, and vegetables appeared on the stone slab between us. When I had packed for this trip, I hadn’t been sure how soon Lokene would be returned to me or how long Bion would stay at my side. I’d made sure I had the supplies I would need if I were on my own but seeing a beautiful filet of fish made me very thankful for my mate’s abilities.

Bion whistled. “Now that is food!”

“It is all food. You are just spoiled,” I shot back, but I quickly repacked the unappealing dried foods.

We spent the next two hours enjoying the impromptu feast Lokene had conjured and mentally going through the chaos of the day. Once we finished eating, both men complained loudly about being forced to sleep in a cave like animals.

“At least let me make it more comfortable in here. Lokene fed you, so I can bed you.” Bion winked and then blushed as he realized what he’d said. “That’s not what I meant.”

My stomach did an odd flip at the thought of him bedding me, but I quickly buried it.

Soyale, is there something you want to tell me?Lokene purred in my mind.

Like what?I asked as innocently as possible.

Perhaps that you desire Bion as a mate?Lokene’s arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me flush against his body.Don’t worry, I’ve blocked him from hearing our conversation.

That isn’t—I started. I couldn’t finish my sentence though, not unless I wanted to lie to both Lokene and myself. That isn’t important right now.

I tried to push away, to keep focused on my mission, but Lokene wasn’t having it, and his arms tightened.

Bion is a good man. Obnoxious, but good.Lokene nuzzled my neck and my skin flushed.

Thankfully, Bion spoke, cutting into a mental conversation he was clueless about. “Yes, this should be more comfortable than sleeping on the cold stone floor.”

Bion flopped down on a large mattress that was piled high with pillows. He patted the bed next to him. “Come on, you two! Give it a try.”

I made my way over to the bed but hesitated to sit down. I was covered in filth from the day’s adventures. Pausing for just a moment, I decided I couldn’t bring myself to climb into a clean bed like this and began peeling off my clothing.

I’d thought Bion might look away, but his heated gaze left a burning trail as it traveled every inch of my skin that came into view. Ignoring him was the safest course of action, but certainly not the easiest.

Lokene stepped up behind me, his hands sliding across my flat stomach. My breath caught as he unbuttoned my jeans and then hooked his thumbs in the waistband. Tilting my head, I caught his expression as he stared at Bion.
