“Isn’t she gorgeous?” Lokene asked the other man while sliding my jeans down my hips with excruciating slowness.

“Yes.” Bion’s single word answer was hoarse.

Lokene wasn’t finished. He pushed the jeans down further, catching the band of my panties and sliding them down together. I flushed hotter than the fires in Hades as Bion devoured me with his eyes. Lokene kneeled, kissing down my legs as he exposed more skin.

“Lokene, this is not the time,” I choked out.

“I’ve missed you,” he whispered between kisses.

“I missed you too.” My legs trembled, but I braced myself and steeled my resolve. “But we should stay focused on the mission.”What are you doing, Lokene?I asked.

“The morning is soon enough for that.” Lokene gently lifted one of my feet and then the other, ridding me of my jeans.

Maybe sleeping in my clothes would’ve been a far safer idea.

Lokene, please. This is hard enough without you creating more temptation.

He sighed. As you wish, Soyale.Once he had me naked, Lokene scooped me into his arms and carried me to the bed, laying me gently between Bion and himself.

Bion reached out a hand, tracing my jawline with a featherlight touch that sent chills racing across my skin. “You are beautiful. The most beautiful woman in all the worlds and realms I have visited.”

I swallowed past the lump in my throat. “Bion, I can’t. There are too many—”

Bion’s face grew wistful. “I know, doll babe. But if the day comes that you change your mind, I will be here.”

The siren screamed in my mind, urging me to claim him as mine. He was willing, after all. But I had responsibilities to see to and mates to think of that I had to put before my lust.

“Thank you,” I whispered, squeezing my eyes closed to keep back the tears.

Bion smiled and tucked the blankets up over my body. Lokene laid down behind me and pulled me against his warm embrace. To my relief, sleep came quickly.

* * *

It wasn’ta sound that woke me. It was the lack of any sound. The crackling of the smoldering fire was still there, but the rest of the night’s sounds had grown silent. With the firelight nearly gone, the cave had been plunged into darkness.

I was off the mattress and lunging forward with my arm around my assailant’s neck in less time than it took to take a breath. A new sound drummed in my ears.

The call.

Except there wasn’t just one person. There were two.

It was about freaking time! I needed to let off some steam after the chaos of the past few days.

Not wasting time, I sank my fangs into the neck of the attacker in my hold, quickly injecting my venom while simultaneously using my hold and training to snap their neck.

As an Ancient, she wouldn’t die from a broken neck. But if I was correct, she would die from my venom. The issue was I wanted to keep that a secret until I had finished battling the Lure, and if the second attacker escaped, my secret would be known.

A hard kick to my mid-section sent me flying into the cave wall. No sooner had my body touched the stone than I used it to propel myself straight into my attacker’s body. A resounding crack was followed by a wheeze, and I smirked, knowing at least one of the attacker’s ribs had been broken.

I heard Lokene stir and had to admire that Ancients slept like dead people because Bion hadn’t moved from his sleep position either.

As much as I might have enjoyed the chance to practice my hand-to-hand combat, I bit down on the attacker’s bicep, sinking my fangs in deep enough to scrape bone and injecting enough venom to take down a small whale.

The hood fell back from their face. The woman cursed but didn’t have time to retaliate before my venom spread through her body, permanently shutting down her nervous system.

It had taken only a few seconds to finish the fight. My chest heaved from exertion, and I worked to steady my breathing.

Lokene chose that moment to jerk upright, eyes wide with panic. “Soyale!”
