It feels good having Ella running after me. Dixie and Tom have done a good job, and she looks almost believable. The sight of her in that skirt and shirt made me immediately hard, and I wonder how far I can push this flirtation.

I already know that as soon as we head back to my apartment, I will take great pleasure in ripping her out of that fucksemble and making her mine in the most basic of ways.

I’m not sure when I decided that Ella Quinn was going to be my new plaything, probably the moment she stepped into the room that first day. The fact I can’t keep my hands off her has surprised me. I thought I’d hate every minute of this, waiting for Ryder to give the all clear and then calling her a cab home. The fact she’s in my apartment at all was a major inconvenience, but somewhere along the line, things have changed. I have turned this to my advantage and the fact I haven’t got laid in so long I’ve forgotten; I am keen to move this game on—tonight.

She almost runs to keep up with me, and I don’t miss the curious looks of the assistants who work in their cubicles as we pass. The fact I’m here among them at all is cause for concern because most of the time I hide out in my office on my own private floor, or head out to view my assets and attend business meetings. Well, today I’m about to drop an unwelcome visit at my manager’s meeting that happens every Monday morning, headed up by Adam himself, and I can’t wait to see their looks when we gate crash their party.

Ella is quiet behind me and I can only imagine her mind working overtime as she wonders what I’m playing at. The trouble is, I have a business that needs my constant attention—especially now because there is trouble in paradise and I want to know why. The fact someone is messing with the five kings is bad enough, but it couldn’t have come at a worse time, really.

I need to rely on Ryder to get to the bottom of that mystery while I work out who is screwing around behind my back in business because I’m not liking the murmurs from the banks and the markets regarding my new venture and it’s scaring off the potential investors.

As we head inside, I relish the shocked looks as I darken their doorway, and Adam looks more surprised than most as he jumps up.

“Mr. Emiliano, I wasn’t expecting you.”

“Relax, Adam, I’m just here to observe.” I look around the room and see my managers looking nervous and I nod. “Gentlemen, please ignore the fact I’m here, I’ll just sit in if I may.”

Adam nods. “Of course.”

He makes to offer me his chair and I say firmly, “I will sit with my assistant in the corner. This is Ella, my newest employee, she is filling in for Dixie while she concentrates on another project. Take no notice of her, pretend she’s invisible, it works for me.”

I feel her bristling beside me and I laugh to myself. Like I said, today is going to be fun stirring the luscious pot that is the delectable Miss. Quinn.

We take our seats on the edge and the air is laced with so much uncertainty I wonder why they’re so on edge.

As Adam tries to carry on where he left off, I’m surprised when Ella rummages in her purse and pulls out a large leather-bound notebook and pen.

Setting the purse on the floor beside her, she places the notebook on her lap and proceeds to chew the end of her pen, making it hard to concentrate on anything else. She studiously ignores me and every so often she notes something down and I’m itching to see what she’s written.

As meetings go, this one is duller than most and I soon tune out as they discuss weekly stats and growth charts that I studied over my breakfast this morning while Ella was being transformed like Eliza Doolittle.

After a while, she slides her notebook across and I stare down in surprise at the words on the page.

When do I get my phone call? I was thinking right after this meeting that is incidentally the worst thing I have ever had the misfortune to sit through in my life.

Taking my pen out of my pocket, I write.

The phone call is assured as soon as we finish up here, but only if you study these people and tell me one observation about each of them.

I slide it back and she chews her pen again and looks around the room.

After about ten minutes, the notebook is back and I look at the words with interest.

The guy in the red tie, definite sleazebag. Can’t stop looking down my top and doesn’t think I know.

The guy to his right hasn’t a clue what Adam is talking about because his mind’s not in the room. He seems nervous, and the sweat on his brow makes me surmise he’s nervous as hell.

The man next to Adam on the other side is a cock sucking ass licker. He nods at everything Adam says and looks around the room as if it was his idea. He couldn’t be more obvious if he tried, and the rest of the room hates him. I’m guessing he’s after a promotion—watch him. The last one remaining is writing everything down, and yet I’m not sure he’s really listening. He keeps on looking at his Apple watch, and it’s not the time that interests him. He’s obviously in two meetings right now, and I’m not sure if it’s business, or arranging his social life. Hopefully for him the latter because it would make me think more of him if that was the case.

Her observations impress me and I write.

One phone call earned. Well done Miss. Quinn.

As an afterthought I write, And Adam, what do you think about him?

I find myself more than interested in what she makes of him because she doesn’t know how close we are and I almost hope she slates him because I can wind him up about that forever more.
