Lexi

Two days later

It feels good to be here. The last few weeks have been so intense, and I really needed this break. The sun is warming the chill in my heart and the fact I’m alone is giving me much needed time to think. Except for the small skeleton staff, I am alone on this island and yet that’s all about to change as I watch the helicopter circling in the sky.

I’m a little nervous, if I’m honest. I’ve grown accustomed to my solitude and now an added house guest is arriving and as I shield my eyes and gaze to the heavens, I feel a shiver of excitement pass through my body.

At last.

He’s here.

I watch from the veranda of the colonial-style house as the helicopter touches down on the concrete landing pad in front of me. My heart beats so fast and I wonder if I’ll make it through because now it’s time to face the consequences of my actions.

The door opens and despite my nerves, I start walking.

A lone figure jumps down, dressed in smart chinos and a black polo shirt. His dark hair is cut close and his glasses hide the eyes that always spell danger when you stare deep inside them.

As he turns, I feel the intensity from here. The power, the darkness, and the desire.

I swallow hard and make my way toward the man who controls every part of me and always will.

We meet in the middle, and I nod. “You’re looking good for a dead man.”

Hunter grins wickedly. “Says the assassin who made it happen.”

He reaches for me and as our fingers lace together, my heart settles. Thank God.

He pulls me close and as I surround myself in his musky scent, the tears make a surprising appearance that he brushes lightly away.

“I love you, Lexi, even though you murdered me in cold blood and left me for dead.”

“You’re welcome.” Our lips crash together with an urgency that can’t be ignored and as his hand wraps around my head and pulls me in closer, everything rights itself in our world.

We waste no time and as soon as we step foot inside the door, we are naked inside of a minute. The scatter cushions do as their name suggests, and as we crash onto the bed, it feels as if we have never been apart. Hunter makes short work of devouring me whole and as he bites, licks and owns, I submit to him as I always will, because I wasn’t kidding when I told Ryder to go fuck himself, my job is done and now my home is beside this man and always will be.

Later, we lie entwined, looking out on an ocean that removes us far away from civilization and words aren’t necessary as we make love long into the night. There will be time for talking in the morning. Tonight is all about us and demonstrating what that means.

* * *

I blinkas the morning sun wakes me and know immediately I’m alone. As I sit up, the sheets fall from my naked body and I wrap a silk robe around my modesty and head off in search of my man. I find him leaning on the veranda outside, looking over the sparkling ocean. He is holding a mug of coffee that Anya the housekeeper has provided with a breakfast fit for a king and I stare at the one before me. Yes, Hunter Blake is a king, one of five actually, and now I want to know what happened after I assassinated him.

He looks mouth-wateringly hot in shorts and a low-cut t-shirt, and his shades disguise his powerful gaze as he watches me approach.

Holding out his hand, I am drawn to him as if by a magnetic force and as his arm wraps around my waist and pulls me to his side, it feels like the most natural thing in the world. Dropping a light kiss on my lips, he whispers huskily, “Morning gorgeous, you looked so peaceful sleeping, I didn’t want to disturb you.”

“I hated waking up, and you weren’t there.”

He nods, “I’ll always be here, Lexi. Trust me on that, unless of course you murder me again, then that could be a big problem.”

Laughing, I sip my coffee as we stare at an ocean that is waking up to another beautiful day. It feels good to be here together, alone and away from the shit storm that is unfolding right now, and as we make our way to breakfast, I love how this feels.

“So, what happened next, you must have been mighty pissed when you woke up?”

He tears a croissant and spreads it liberally with butter.

“It was surprising to find myself at The Rubicon. I must say, it’s an impressive place.”

I feel a certain pride in my home and nod. “It is.”
