Today is going to be interesting because I never know what to expect next and if anything, Dexter Prince intrigues me way more than I’m happy to admit.

As soon as I step into the room, though, I freeze on the spot because sitting waiting for me in a seat by the window is the man himself.

His sharp stare penetrates my soul and I swallow hard because he looks pissed and I’m guessing it’s because I didn’t agree to his plan.

Before him on the small table is a set of papers and a pen and he says sharply, “Your contract. Sit and we’ll run through it.”

Taking a seat on the edge of the bed, I try hard to regain some kind of professionalism.

“That was quick.”

I stare him right in the eye and he shrugs. “I had it drawn up last night. All it took was an email and a printer and here we are.”

“Yes, um, here we are.”

It hasn’t escaped my notice that we are in a bedroom and thinking of the type of contract he had in store for me makes me a little anxious and he smirks as he lifts the first page.

“It’s all set out, your terms of employment, duties, salary, leave entitlement, the lot. Sign this and you become my apprentice and just for the record, I won’t be going easy on you. If you want to learn this business, then you had better be prepared for what that involves. I’m a bastard, a hard boss and I don’t have time for stupid questions, or people who expect to have a life outside of the office. Sign this and you’re mine until I say otherwise.”

He hands me the pen and I make no move to reach it. He raises his eyes and I say firmly, “I will read it properly before signing anything. And for the record, you don’t own me and you never will. I will work hard but will leave when I say so. You may have imprisoned me once, but never again. You see, you owe me, Mr. Prince, not the other way around because so far you have broken every rule in employment law and some criminal ones. So, you will teach me how to be the best and I will learn, but I will not be bullied by you. Do I make myself clear?”

I almost close my eyes as I wait for the storm to hit and am surprised when a low chuckle reaches my ears instead. “Understood, Miss. Bryant. I’m guessing I kind of deserved that. Fine, take your time, read the contract and then bring it to my office signed or unsigned, the choice is yours. Just so you know, for future reference, this is the only contract I expect you to honor. There is no other offer on the table so you can relax knowing I am no longer interested.”

He puts the pen down and stands and as he passes me, his aftershave wraps me in pleasure because God help me, now he has backed away, I want him even more.
