Holly

Iam fuming. More than fuming, I’m apoplectic with rage. The bastard, the cock-sucking traitorous bastard. How dare he beat my ass and then ask me to be his fuck toy? The man’s a monster of the highest caliber and I am so not going to play the victim.

I am an educated woman who has moved mountains to get that job in Media Corp, and I did it without sleeping my way through the door. I would hate myself as much as I hate him right now because I am not a woman like that.

You’re a fool.

That bitch inside my head shouts me down as I struggle to get my rage under control. I carry on walking, wishing I could shed that part of me that is more than interested in his proposition. Be his—intimately.

Part of me is running to sign the contract already because I have never met a more attractive man in my life. It’s not just that super-sexy appearance either, it’s him. The man himself. He exudes power and authority, and his lazy drawl sends shivers down my spine. He’s ultra-sexy in a soul shredding way and I absolutely cannot let him into my heart because I kind of need it to survive and I know this all just a game to him.

He wants me—for sex and that is all. Not me. Not Holly Bryant, who has a personality hidden somewhere behind the freakish body nature delivered on a drunk day at the office. I deserve more. I demand more and if that bastard wants to get anywhere near me intimately, he can work for it, because I value my dignity way more than his fucking ego.

Somehow, I find my way to the kitchen, probably due to the smell of freshly baked bread wafting my way like the gingerbread house in Hansel and Gretel. I certainly feel as if I’ve stumbled into a wicked fairy story because that man is evil personified.

The kind smile of his housekeeper, soothes my anger a little and the worried frown that darkens her face tells me I’m allowing my emotions to show.

“Hey, honey, come in and I’ll pour you a coffee. I can add a brandy to it if you like, you look as if you need it.”

“I’m good, thanks.”

Somehow, I manage to raise a smile and as I sit, my mouth waters at the freshly baked bread in a basket on the table beside fresh fruit and cinnamon rolls.

“Can I cook you something, honey, eggs, bacon perhaps, what about pancakes, just name it and I’ll whisk it up?”

“All of the above.”

I laugh as she grins and high fives me. “That’s my girl, music to my ears.”

I watch as she drags out the skillet and expertly cracks some eggs into it, and soon the smell of frying eggs and bacon makes my stomach growl.

By the time it’s sitting on a plate before me, I feel a little better about my situation. I stood up to the beast, and I survived—for now, anyway.

Maisy takes the seat opposite me and shakes her head. “I’m guessing Dexter played his cards all wrong as always.”

“What makes you say that?” I roll my eyes and she laughs. “Man, that guy is certainly hot and successful in every way but he has a lot to learn about women.”

Wondering if she is speaking from experience, she sighs. “In all the years I’ve been here with Jason, I’ve never seen him with a woman. Word is, he keeps them away because he’s not interested. When I heard you were here, it gave me hope until I learned the reason for it and I can’t even begin to tell you how mad that made me.”

She shakes her head and sips her coffee. “But all that aside, he’s a good guy, one of the best. Whatever his reason for bringing you here must be a good one, because that man has a heart of gold inside that perfect body. He just lacks experience with women.”

I almost spit out my food and she giggles as I wipe the tears from my eyes. “Ok, bad choice of words, because I’m guessing that man could teach us all a thing or two, but emotions, well, he doesn’t have any, so that’s why whatever’s happened, don’t take it personally. He needs a strong woman to show him how it’s supposed to be done.”

“Then I wish her luck.”

I chew on my food thoughtfully and then say, “You know, Maisy, that man could have it all if he just learned the right way to go about things. He thinks he can just click his fingers and get what he wants with no effort on his part at all. Looks count for a lot, but it’s what’s inside that matters. He may look amazing but his personality sucks—big time.”

For a moment we just giggle and then somebody enters the room who makes my jaw drop because he is all man, right here dressed like a cowboy looking at Maisy as if he wants to eat her alive.

“Hey, baby, have you met Holly?”

She smiles at him and I realize this must be her husband.

“No, Darlin’, I haven’t had the pleasure. Good to see you out and about.”

He winks and drops a sexy kiss on Maisy’s willing lips and I feel a sharp pain as I realize this is what I want. The mutual love and respect. To be part of a couple who complete the picture. Equals, friends, lovers and soul mates. Not some business arrangement based on sex. I’m not that woman and I never will be.

Maisy dishes him up some food and I feel a little in the way, so make my excuses and head back to my room.
