Because Mackenzie was a fucking senator.

He was unsure whether Josh or Aiden would even touch this job. Then again, this was their specialty, so he hoped like fuck one of them returned his call soon.

“Aloha, sir,” Akino, the general manager of Dufort Waikiki, said. “How was your first night?”

Daniel rarely traveled so his visit was causing a stir.

“Aloha, Akino. It was excellent. The suite is looking good,” Daniel replied, shaking his hand. “Do we have the meeting rooms booked as discussed for later this week?”

Akino nodded.

“Yes, BookFlix arrives in three days. The large conference room has been set aside for you. It can be turned into two or four private spaces if necessary.”

Ah yes, the electronic moving walls they’d updated to a few years ago—it had increased their revenue in the conference space by thirty percent. Ingenious technology.

“Are they staying in the hotel or elsewhere?” Daniel asked.

“Here, sir.”

“Good, good.”

“Also, the author,” Akino said.

“Author?”

“Yes, sir. The author. She wrote our—your—hotel into her books and is apparently consulting on the project while they’re here.”

Daniel stared at the man, wondering if it was necessary for him to know this author or the books. “Which books? Should I be familiar with them?”

Akino blushed. “Ah, the um, Island of Tomorrow series. They’re tropical island romance books. Very popular.”

Christ.

“Have you read them?” Daniel asked, attempting to keep judgment from his voice.

“Well, you know, because she mentions our hotel, so I skimmed through them,” Akino said, shrugging.

Liar.

Daniel nearly smirked.

“Are they those book porn romances women now read?” Daniel asked.

Akino laughed. “Yes, sir.”

He rolled his eyes. The author probably needed to get laid if she spent her days writing that rubbish. “So the author will join the meeting with the network?”

“Yes. Harry, our new marketing manager, will attend with you and manage most of the operational side of things. And of course we will be directed by you on anything to do with reputational risk and PR.”

Daniel nodded.

“Fletcher will pick this up with Harry once he’s back at work next month.”

Daniel didn’t mind getting involved with some of the details some days. Being CEO meant he had a big picture view of the company and was rarely hands on anymore. Ultimately, he was responsible for everything, including reputation, which right now was more at risk than anyone knew.

“Yes, sir. Harry will work with the local teams here to reduce the interruption to our guests during production and ensure there is good communication to local authorities in and around the area.”

Daniel nodded.
