Her knees were fine.

It was her panties that had a problem.

Wet.

Even when he kept his winks to himself, and those green eyes met hers from across the boardroom table, Olivia found herself burning from the inside out.

And he knew it.

“Here we go, Ms. Miller,” Frederick announced as he pulled up outside her brownstone.

“Thank you,” Olivia said. “You have a lovely evening.”

She climbed out of the car and hastily raced up the steps. The last thing she needed was Simon finding out she’d been dropped off home, again, bythe fancy car.

He’d already made a couple of comments about her relationship with Fletcher Dufort.

She unlocked her front door and then closed it, leaning against the back of it, and let out a long sigh.

Bath.

Wine.

Book.

Bed.

Then one more night and Sammy would be home.

In the meantime, she could fantasize about Fletcher Dufort and what could never be, while making good use of her vibrator.

––––––––

OLIVIA PUSHED THE CLOSETdoor closed and picked up the washing basket. As she walked through the kitchen, she turned the oven on low to heat up the casserole she had baked.

It was already seven o’clock and Sammy would be home in the next hour. Simon never gave her an exact time and always made sure their daughter was tired and hungry when he dropped Sammy off. It only hurt their daughter, but was his attempt to make life miserable for Olivia.

Olivia had to ignore it.

It wasn’t worth getting into an argument with Simon. It upset Sammy and ruined her night.

Instead, Olivia had worked out not to prepare anything for dinner that could spoil, and to dish it up as soon as Sammy walked in the door.

Then they had cuddles on the couch watching one of her favorite shows. Usually within an hour and a half, her daughter was calmer and ready for bed.

Then Olivia spent the next hour unpacking her bags and getting her school things ready for the next day. After she had searched them for anything her insane father had put in there that could potentially incriminate her.

Was she paranoid?

Possibly.

Did she think Simon was capable of it?

Absolutely.

Knock knock.

Olivia drew in a long breath.
