She nodded angrily.

“Simon Mantle. He works forNew York Today.”

“Is that who he’ll leak it to? If so, I’ll ring Frank,” he said, referring to the editor of the paper.

Olivia ran her hand through her hair, creating more mayhem in the chaos.

“I don’t know. He could send it to everyone. Frank will know that and want to jump on it. It’s too big a story.Youare media fodder.”

Fletcher leaned against the back of the sofa and cursed. It was absolutely ridiculous that people were this interested in who he was sleeping with. An office romance in an organization with an anti-fraternization policy? Even juicier.

“I’m going to resign,” Olivia said. “In fact, consider this my resignation.”

What the hell?

He straightened. “No, the hell you aren’t. I won’t accept it. Let’s work this through.”

She shook her head.

“What’s done is done. I’ve been thinking about it all day. We got caught. We both knew this was a huge risk and we did it anyway,” she said. “I need to meet with my lawyer and prepare a strategy, so I don’t lose Sammy.”

“I’m not letting you quit. I’ll talk to Daniel,” he growled.

“We both know how he feels about this.” She frowned. “He’ll either fire me, or demand I quit. I’m just saving us all the pain.”

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

She was right about Daniel’s position. Still, the photo hadn’t leaked yet and as a majority and equal shareholder, Daniel would have to listen to him.

Olivia stepped up and placed her hand on his arm. “Fletcher. It’s over. This. Us. Me. I’m leaving.”

No.

No!

His skin felt clammy as he watchedhercomforthim. He pulled her into his arms. “No, Liv. Don’t do this. This might be the opportunity for us to blow this up and get the policy removed.”

She pulled back.

“I don’t care about my job. I care about keeping my daughter,” she said. “But I’m sorry for all the trouble it’s going to cause you.”

She was apologizing to him?

“Fuck that, Liv. Stop. I’m not losing you. We can work through this,” he snapped.

She took another step away and shook her head.

He glared at her.

“Don’t do this.” His tone was almost pleading as he closed the gap.

She held up her hand. “No. I need you to go. You should leave. You can’t be here. Sammy will be home soon.”

So?

He’d met her daughter many times at work events. Fury boiled beneath his skin as he watched her completely shut down and disconnect.

“So that’s it? It’s over. You’re leaving Dufort Hotels and what we had means nothing. Nothing at all?”
