“Why? It’s still early.”

Buckling Rayna in the car, I close her door and round the car. I push Holly back against the passenger door.

“Oh, you want me to fuck you where everyone can see?”

“No.”

“That’s what I thought. So get in the car, we’re going home.”

She doesn’t need to be told twice and I will my dick to soften for the drive home. Once I’m behind the wheel and everyone is buckled, I start the car and pull away from the club, sliding my hand on Holly’s thigh as I drive my family home. My fucking family and there isn’t a man alive who will have the opportunity to destroy it again.

“Idon’t even know what to say,” I admit out loud to her. “Holly… I love her. I do. I thought I’d feel bad about it, coming here today and telling you, but it’s like what I’m supposed to do… who I’m supposed to be now. She fits perfectly with me and Rayna. I guess I want you to know I didn’t end up here lightly. It took me so long to see what was good for me, for Ray too.”

Crouching down, I lay the bouquet of flowers by her headstone and stand. I still can’t believe Holly came out here and took my place when I was locked up. She knew how much it meant to me and had my back.

“Your parents even approve of her. Your mom nearly stopped my heart when she gave us her blessing. I’ll still come by and see you, and I know Holly brings Rayna. I will never forget you, and you will always be with me. She isn’t replacing you, that could never happen. Not ever. But she’s good for me and for our daughter. I have no idea if you’d be happy for us, and you know I don’t believe in all that afterlife soppy sayings bullshit, but I know you’d want me to be with someone who’s just as devoted to Rayna as us. I’ve found that in Holly. She loves her and the kid loves her just as much.”

I hear footsteps approaching from behind and find Luca strolling toward me.

“You need more time on your own?” he asks.

“Nah, I’m good.”

I look down at the grass, long ago grown over, the dirt burying her deep. She’s always with me and I have eventually found a level of peace to live with.

“Let’s walk,” I say, digging my smokes out of my pocket.

“So why did you wanna meet this early, here of all places?”

I come to a stop in front of Mark Blake’s grave. Our grandfather. The most important man in our mom’s life until she married our dad. The founder of the Lost Souls Motorcycle Club.

“The only ears listening to us are the ghosts and as far as this conversation goes, it doesn’t go any further than us till we agree on a few things.”

“Okay, I’m intrigued. Go on.”

“I’ve been thinking. After we end Effie Rathbone, and the Haywards have control of Dog City, who’s to say they won’t turn on us?”

“You think they will?”

“I think that at the moment, we serve them a purpose. They pay us extravagantly to be their muscle and do their dirty work.”

“I hear ya, but they have stepped up a few times and stood with us.”

“In the beginning when they needed us to believe they were legit.”

“So you think they’re gonna turn on us when they no longer need us.”

“I’m not sure, but my gut is telling me not to trust them. They weren’t expecting us to set up a chapter in the city. Dad said Jamie Boy showed up wanting answers about it and then made out as though it was no big deal.”

“What are you thinking? You must have a plan?”

“Not exactly, but Dad put us both at the top for a reason. He sees us going to new levels and I want to reach them. I think once Effie is out of the picture, we take the city for ourselves. Then we look over all our chapters and see where we can grow.”

He smirks. “I’ve been thinking the same. I must say, I wasn’t expecting for you to be on the same wavelength.”
