“What’s the betting they’re here because of us?”

Agreeing, I nod. “I’ll let Luca know. This is his territory, and he won’t appreciate us sorting it out for him. He’ll wanna deal with this himself.”

“Let’s go home.”

The ride back to Willow’s Peak doesn’t feel as long as the ride was into the city. Knowing more Dead Rats are heading our way amps up the need to get on Effie and her organisation.

JJ splits and heads to the hospital. I ride alone back to the club, not a single enemy in sight.

As soon as I’m off my bike and walking into the bar, I call for everyone to get their asses into the back room.

“What’s going on?” Sparky asks. “Where’s JJ?”

Taking my seat, I tell him, “He’s gone to the hospital.”

Brothers file into the room and take their seats. As soon as Myles closes the door and plonks his ass in his chair, I slam the gavel down.

“Jay and I rode out into the city today to check out Effie’s businesses. We saw Dead Rats riding around. Looks like she’s called in another chapter, or they’re using her to seek their revenge on us. They’re not dead and gone, so keep your eyes open and I’ll post watchers around town. We also saw Effie’s got a new salon opening soon. She’ll have to show her face, and that’s when we’re gonna take her out.”

“You saw Rats?” Dad asks.

“Yeah, a southern chapter.”

“They didn’t see you?”

“Not that we saw, and we weren’t exactly hiding.”

“Angel and I should get to Dog City. I can get Darius and his boys out with us. We should hit this new chapter hard while they don’t know we know they’re about,” Luca chimes in.

“You do that but take the twins with you.” Mason and Myles smirk at my order, happy to be in a new fight. “Call Darius before you head out. Get him to send his boys out and see if they can pinpoint where they’re staying.”

He nods and I look to Slade. “Get what you can on the new salon and let me know.”

“Will do.”

I slam the gavel down and end the meet. Brothers leave but Dad stays behind.

“You’re doing well. You’re falling into place perfectly.”

“Only doing what comes natural,” I say with a sigh.

“Keep it up and you won’t go wrong.” He stands and slides a burner phone across the table. “That belongs to you now. It has the Haywards’ numbers on it. You should update Jamie Boy. The more they think you’re open with them now, the more you could hide in the future if that’s what should occur.”

Walking out into the bar, he closes the door, leaving me alone in the room. I lean back in my chair and light up a cigarette.

I make it home before Rayna’s bedtime and lock up behind me, setting the alarm before kicking off my boots and heading upstairs to change into my sweats.

Rayna’s laughter fills the upstairs from the bathroom, and I lean against the doorframe as she and Holly do their best to flood my bathroom. Rayna’s too busy trying to splash Holly to notice me and Holly’s too busy ducking and dodging the water to see I’m five feet away from her.

“It’s a good thing I’m home now. Who knows how much longer it’d take you to flood the house.”

They both jump and I become the sole focus of Rayna, who’s going to throw a sponge at me.

Pointing my finger at her, I bark, “Don’t you dare, missy.”

She pouts as Holly jumps up and grabs all the towels.

“Sorry, I always clean up. It’s the only way to get her in the bath sometimes.”
