Page 63 of His End Game

Arching his brow, he quizzically assesses me.

“Why do I feel like there’s more to this?”

Leaning on the table, I make sure not to draw attention from the guards.

“Mase told me the prospect asked Holly out on a date. Aspen interrupted before she could give him an answer.”

Narrowing his eyes, he asks, “And that bothers you, why?”

“Did I say it does?” I snort.

“You don’t need to, brother. Your face and clenched fists say it all. You want me to scare him off or something?”

“Nah, just keep an eye on them for me.”

“Sure. But to be honest, I’m keeping my eyes on Holly and Rayna daily. The woman looks her normal miserable self. I don’t think she’d agree to dating or whatever.”

It’s what I need to hear, stuck in this place.

“Just make sure it stays that way.”

“Sure, I’ll add it to the list of shit I’ve already got to do on a daily basis.”

Leaning back in my chair, I move the conversation back to the club until time is called and I’m led back to the pod.

“I’m sorry I missed her. The queue for the phone was longer tonight.”

“It’s okay. We spent the day with Nina and Sebastian. She was half falling asleep during dinner. You might wanna call her in the morning, though, just to make my day easier.”

Holly’s voice soothes me and the questions about the prospect die on my lips.

“Sure.” The line goes quiet, and I picture her chewing her lip, needing me to keep the conversation going. “What are your plans tonight?”

“Oh, um, I’ll probably go to bed soon, fall asleep to a movie. What about you? Any plans?”

I snort. “Yeah, we’re gonna hit up the bar in town, shoot some pool.”

“Well, be sure not to wake us when you get in.”

Her banter hits me in the balls, and I tighten my grip on the phone.

“It wouldn’t be Rayna I’d be waking,” I purr, and I hear her breath catch over the line.

“Leo.” She sighs.

“I know.”

But fuck me if I’m not wishing it was true. My dick twitches and I’m not in the right place to be walking back to my cell with a boner.

“I’m going to let you go. I need to let the guy behind me get on the phone before lights out.”

“Okay. Speak soon.”

“Bye.”

I hang up, slamming the receiver down harder than necessary. The guy behind me mutters something along the lines of,about time, and I barge into his shoulder as I pass by him. The fucker has nothing further to say and I make my way back to my cell.

As I grab the rail to jog up the stairs, a fight breaks out and from the looks of it, over a game of dominoes. I slow down and scan over the guys at the table. I sigh with relief Mason isn’t there. He gets closer to the edge each day we’re here and there will be a day where he won’t remember my orders through his temper.
