“I’m pregnant.”

I knew it.

Throwing my arms around her. I squeeze her tight. “Congratulations. I bet Luca’s happy.”

I’ve heard him around and knew what he wanted from her since their wedding. When you’re not a part of the conversation, it’s easy to hear everyone else’s.

“More than you would know.” She smiles.

“Tor,” Luca barks and she jumps up.

“Gotta go. See you around.”

Before I can feel the pinch of her absence, little hands are clawing at my legs. Looking down, Sebastian is holding out his arms for me. Nina’s not far behind. As I lift him onto my lap, she leans over and whispers, “Can you watch him for me? I wouldn’t ask but I need some time with Zach, and I don’t exactly wanna ask his dad.”

“Go.” I laugh. “Get yours and don’t worry about this little one. I won’t let him out of my sight.”

“Thank you. I owe you one.”

I distract Sebastian so he doesn’t see his mom leave and I hold on to his wrists and clap his hands in mine.

“What shall we do then?”

“Dink,” he chirps.

He wants a drink. Collecting him in my arms, I make sure Rayna’s still with Leo and push my way through the brothers to the bar. The prospect is busy pouring a row of shots, so we wait.

“You seem tight with the old ladies.”

I jump at his voice and keep my eyes forward.

“Only because of Rayna.”

It’s not like they would’ve had a reason to get to know me if it weren’t for her.

“Is that a problem for you?” I bark out in a whisper.

“Why would it be?”

I don’t give him an answer. When I turn around to ask him what the hell is going on between us, he’s walking off, stopping by his dad’s table.

The night wears on and once Sebastian is back with his mom and dad, I find myself at loose ends. I spent the last few months thinking we’d moved on from being a secret, traveling on our path.

Tonight, I’m still the nanny. The only difference, Zara isn’t on the fringes, hovering around like an unwanted wasp, waiting to get on Leo’s dick. She’s cuddled up to Grim, and he holds her affectionately. She’s moved on and yet, I’m stuck right where I was over a year ago.

The music can’t drown out my thoughts and I walk over to Leo. He hasn’t put Rayna down once since his return and she’s been sleeping against his chest for the last couple of hours.

“I’m leaving. Do you want me to put her to bed?”

I don’t care I’m interrupting his conversation with his dad and Pope. I couldn’t care about anything right now apart from getting out of here.

“We’re staying here tonight,” he tells me, and for the first time in a long while, I don’t hear what I want to hear. He simply means we, as in the three of us because that’s who lives at home.

“Okay.”

He stands and passes Rayna over to me. She’s so tired, she doesn’t wake, and I head out before either one of us can say, ornotsay, anything.

I’ve been so stupid. Tonight has shown me nothing has changed and his warning from the beginning to not to expect more is still ongoing.
