Page 9 of His End Game

“Hey, brother. You good to talk?”

Leo peels his eyes from mine and nods to his brother. Rayna jumps into Victoria’s waiting arms and, getting the hint, I grab my purse and stand.

“Don’t go far,” Leo says.

“I’ll take her for lunch. Do you want me to pick you up something or is Zara bringing you something later?”

His jaw clicks and his eyes narrow into slits. “Just get you and Ray something. I’m good.”

With Rayna in her arms, Victoria is the first to leave the room and I hear Luca snort as I follow her out into the hall.

“What was that about?” she asks as soon as she lowers Rayna to the floor and takes hold of her hand.

“Nothing.”

“That wasn’t nothing,” she argues.

“It’s not my business to gossip about it.”

“Oh, I think it is. I’m already putting two and two together, unless you want me to come to the wrong conclusion…”

Pushing the button for the elevator, I feel her stare on me until I turn to face her.

“I found out the other week that he’s been…” lowering my voice because of Rayna, I continue, “…seeing Zara from the club.”

Shock ripples through her and I wait for the next set of questions that are no doubt going to come flying at me.

“And you were snarky back there because there’s something going on between you and Leo, as well?”

Shaking my head, I’m quick to tell her, “No, absolutely nothing has happened.”

“But you want it to? You like him?” she asks dubiously.

“No. Like I was having a bad night last night, I’m just having a bad day today.”

Thankfully, she doesn’t push, and she’s more focused on Rayna throughout lunch in the hospital cafeteria. On the walk back up to Leo’s room, I feel her eyes on me, but she says nothing.

Luca relaxes having Victoria back in his sights and jealousy runs through me when Leo only has eyes for Rayna.

“You ready, babe?” he asks her, and she nods.

They both say goodbye and I’m left with the tension growing stronger in the room.

“I should get her back. I’ll bring her back this evening for an hour so hopefully I won’t have a repeat performance of last night.”

“Sure.” I grab Rayna’s jacket and he adds, “When I’m discharged, we’ll be going back to the cabin.”

Good. I much prefer staying at the cabin. There’s always something happening at the club and there’s never any silence.

“Have they told you when that’ll be?” I ask.

“Not yet, but I’m hoping in the next couple of days.”

With everything that’s needed to be said, said, I get Rayna ready to leave and Leo warns her to behave herself.

“Okay, we’ll be back later.”

As I’m about to open the door, he says, “Holly…”
