“You never know,” he says cryptically as he walks off toward the garages.

I look between the bar and the main house, wishing I could go for a ride. I wonder what the club will look like under Leo’s presidency, and all I see is a bright fucking future with my son running around, my wife under my arm, and me possibly wearing the VP patch. It’s been Leo and me, like Cas said, since we were kids. I can’t remember a time where we didn’t have each other’s backs. I think he’d make a great president, like his dad before him.

Entering the house, I smell breakfast cooking before I enter the kitchen. Mom is busy at the stove, while Alannah and Kyla are filling plates of eggs and bacon, and anything else Mom passes their way.

When she sees me, she gives me a bright smile. “Just in time.”

I join the already crowded table. Settling into my chair, Myles pulls his close to mine.

“Didn’t expect you to be up this early. You piss the bed?” he snorts. As usual, the fucker laughs and brushes it off when I hit him on the arm.

“I had a call to make.”

Nodding, his amusement vanishes, understanding what I’m saying without having to say it.

“She good?”

“So I’m told.”

Mom places my breakfast and silverware in front of me. Before she can walk off, I grab her hand and squeeze it.

“I found out Harper’s having a boy. You’re gonna have a grandson.”

“A boy!” she shrieks, releasing my hand and clapping excitedly.

“Congratulations” echo around the table, but quickly die down when Emma walks in, immediately spins on her heel, and rushes back out. Myles is quick to jump up and chase her.

Mom murmurs, “Looks like I might not be the only one with a grandbaby on the way.”

Kyla bites down on her bottom lip to hide her joy, and Luca’s hand slips around Victoria’s waist. Fucking hell. By the end of this lockdown, there’ll be a whole new generation of Lost Souls. Though Victoria looks at Luca and shakes her head. Maybe they won’t be adding to the next generation just yet after all.

Hiding my laughter with a mouthful of eggs, I ignore Luca’s glare currently aimed my way. The fucker wants to tie himself to her in every way possible. It reminds me of Har… Damn. Harper’s absence hits me like a ton of bricks, and I lose my appetite. But I remind myself she’ll be home soon, and I’ll feel complete once again, even if it doesn’t fill the hole left from not having her here now.

Leo joinsme at our usual table in the bar.

One look at him tells me he’s on edge. Rolling his bottom lip between his teeth, he taps his fingers on the table in a steady rhythm.

“What’s wrong with you?” I ask, only half expecting an answer.

“Nothing.”

His fingers continue to drum against the table. There’s clearly something up with him.

“Since there’s nothing wrong with you, can you stop doing that? It’s annoying.”

Glaring at me, his fingers still. It’s been a long time since anyone’s had the ability to shut me up with a look.

“You fancy a ride into town? Hit up Josie’s for a beer?” he asks.

A slow smirk tugs at my lips. It’s rare for us to drink in town. We keep to the clubhouse for a reason, and knowing my brother as well as I do, he has an ulterior motive. I don’t need to guess that he wants to go out hunting for rats.

Since Cas gave the all-clear to go up against them, I’ve been waiting for Leo to strike.

“It’s not like I’ve got anything else to do.”

I get to my feet, and for a split second, I think to say goodbye to Harper, but catch myself, remembering she’s not here.

“Shall I gather a few brothers?”
