“How’s Luca been today?” I ask her.

“He didn’t sleep much last night. Kept staring at his phone waiting on a call, but he got a few hours in. He’s been pretty quiet this morning.”

I smirk. “So the same as usual, then?”

“No.” She laughs. “I’m sure he’ll tell you, but he asked Angel to be his VP.”

I’m glad to hear it. I knew they’d make a great team.

“He said you were fine about moving to the city. Is that true?”

“It’ll take some getting used to, but I understand this is what he has to do. I won’t stand in the way of club business.”

As easy-going and hippy-like as she is, I sometimes forget she’s Pope’s granddaughter.

“If you’re patient, I reckon you’ll both be fine. It’ll take some time in the beginning to find your way, but I don’t think it’ll take that long.”

“I have complete faith in Luca. This is what he needs to do, and the city is where he needs to be. He can have all the time he needs.”

The man himself is leaning against his bike, ready to leave, and smiles wide when he sees Victoria walking alongside me.

“Is he ever too much for you?” I ask her quietly.

I’ve often wondered about this. Not that I believe he’d strike her or anything like that. I just know how intense he can be.

“Sometimes, but I know how to handle him.”

“He’s my son and I love him, but if you ever need us, don’t hesitate to call.”

Her smile turns from sweet to wicked, and that’s when I see why he’s head over heels for her. She’s not as sweet as we’d all like to think she is.

“The day I can’t handle him is the day he regrets being the fastest swimmer at conception.”

I burst out laughing. She’s fucking perfect for him, and I have no concerns for their future. She’s exactly what he needs in a woman, and I’m damn glad they found each other.

Luca narrows his eyes. “What’s so funny?”

“Nothing, babe.”

Wrapping her arms around his neck, she plants a big kiss on him. Ignoring their goodbye, I straddle my bike, running my fingers over the handlebars. I can’t believe my baby is still running. It’s seen just as much as my patch, bar the change of parts over the years.

“Come on, swimmer. Say goodbye and let her go.”

His confusion lasts as long as it takes for Victoria to kiss him and head back over to Holly and Rayna.

“Swimmer?” he murmurs, climbing on his bike.

“Don’t worry about it. Come on. Let’s go see your brother.”

Riding out of the club with my son beside me, reminds me of why the road is one of my favourite places to be.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Harper

Shoving a pillow between my knees, I try to get comfortable, only to fail. With all the worrying about Leo, and trying to remain calm for the sake of the baby, I’m drained. I tell myself he’s in the hospital, the safest place he can be, and that he’s going to be fine. He reminds me of Cas, always seeming to pull through the worst. I wish I had turned off the lamp before getting into bed.

With no plans to get up, I pull the sheets up over my head to block out the light.
