She can always tell when there’s more to a story.A heavy sigh left his lips, and he rolled his eyes. “Okay, okay. I’ve been busy getting that profile done.” Trying to smile, he folded his arms across his chest. “You okay?”Probably better to change the subject.

“Yup.” Her smile was a little bit brighter than before as she plopped down on the single cozy chair in the corner of the office and pushed one hand through her blonde locks, leaning her elbow on the back of the couch. “Just thought I’d come and tell you that I’ve got a date.”

Asher’s mouth fell open. “What?”

“I know, right?” Shaking her head, a little laugh escaped out of the corner of her mouth. “It’s only been up for a couple of hours!”

“And you’ve got a date already?”

Willow rolled her eyes at him. “You don’t need to sound so surprised.”

“I’m not surprised,” Asher countered quickly, removing all trace of shock from his face. “I guess I’m a little stunned that you only have one.”

Her lips fell flat, but the corner of one side tipped up. “Now you’re just being cute.”

Shrugging, Asher smirked. “It’s what I’m known for.”

Willow smiled at him, but there was uncertainty in her eyes. Like a shadow, it stole some of the brightness from her smile.

“What’s wrong?”

“I don’t know. This isn’t the sort of thing I’ve done before.”

“What, dating?”

“Very funny.” Shifting in her seat, Willow dropped her hands to her lap. “I’ve never done the online dating thing. Every time I’ve dated before, it’s always been someone I’ve met face to facebeforewe decided to go out. Right now, I feel like I’m going in blind.”

“Youaregoing in blind.” Seeing her bite her lip, Asher grimaced.

Still chewing her lip, it took Willow a second or two to nod. “Yeah, I guess so.” Running one hand through her hair, she pushed it back, away from her face, and let it fall around her shoulders. “I think I’m just afraid that this person isn’t going to be who they said they are on the app.”

“What makes you think that?”

“Hadley told me that not everyone is honest on dating profiles, and that makes me a little nervous.”

Asher cleared his throat, leaning back against the wall as he gazed at her. “Just be careful.”

“What do you mean?”

“You know, meet somewhere public, make sure that you tell someone where you will be and what time they can expect you home. Don’t make any excuses if you need to leave the date. Just tell the guy that you’ve got to go, and then leave. If they’re not who they said they are, andespeciallyif they don’t match their profile picture, then that’s your first big red flag.”

“That makes sense.” A tiny smile pulled up her lips, and she stretched, yawning widely. “I’m probably worrying too much. The guy seems really nice.”

“Tell me about him.”It’s not like I really want to know, but I figure she’ll want to tell me.

The brightness in Willow’s smile came back in a second. “He doesn’t live around here. He lives in Stillwater, but he’s got a cabin about twenty minutes from Windy Lake.”

“A cabin? Does a cabin really compare to my entire campground?” Asher wiggled his eyebrows playfully.

Willow laughed, and the sound squeezed Asher’s heart. “No way! You’re the only person I know whose family owns an adult summer camp. But this guys seems interesting. He says he’s a surgeon.”

“Wow.” Asher’s eyes opened wide. “A surgeon with a house in Stillwater and a cabin near Windy Lake. Sounds perfect.”

“I sure hope so.”

I hate that I’m going to ask this.“And good looking too, I’m guessing?”

A faint flush of pink brushed across Willow’s cheeks. “From his profile picture, I’d say so.” She tried to speak offhand, but Asher noticed how she clasped her hands together, her fingers squeezing tightly.I guess she’s more attracted to him than she wants to say.
