“So I assume you’re keeping Arianna on your team.” Barbara was determined to get a crystal clear answer.

“Of course I’m keeping Arianna.”

Barbara laughed. “All right. This packet is for you, Arianna, your uniforms. And here are your own clothes.”

“Thank you.” She collected the package and the hanger with the black pants and white crepe blouse she’d worn this morning.

“You’ll get used to his annoying manners,” Barbara whispered to Arianna when Rafael left the room. “Some nurses call him—”

“Arianna, are you coming or not? We’re going to HR next.”

“Yes. See you later, Barbara,” she threw over her shoulder as she joined Rafael in the hallway.

“I never doubted that you would do a great job on this emergency trip. And you did.” His hand on her back, he urged her along the hallway.

Repressing the urge to punch him for the scare he’d given her, Arianna narrowed her eyes. “So why did you—”

“Don’t pay any attention to Captain Lopez’s expressions. He has the reputation of being a jerk, and he likes to keep it.” He laughed. “I wasn’t going to behave any differently for the new nurse, right?” He caught her gaze and winked. “But trust me. The stern captain has nothing in common with your nice neighbor.”

She chuckled. “You could’ve fooled me. You really gave me a scare.”

“Why? Trust yourself. You’re an excellent nurse.” He knocked on a door and opened it. “Hi Carl. Meet Arianna Garcia, our new flight nurse. She’s working with me. You’re supposed to give her a company phone.”

“Here it is. Our CEO put in the order for it. Welcome aboard, Arianna. If you have any tech needs or problems, come to me.”

“Thanks.” They shook hands, and she gave him her phone to transfer her contacts onto the new one.

He fiddled with it for a moment. “Is this your kid’s phone?”

“What? No, it’s mine.”

“Yours?”

Arching an eyebrow, he examined it some more. “Are you aware there’s a tracker on your phone?”

“A tracker? What do you mean?”

“Someone’s been keeping tabs on your activities. Any idea who?”

Julio Gomez. Who else? She remembered his departing words. “Don’t try to run away. I’ll always find you.”

“I’ll kill him. I swear I’ll kill him,” she muttered.

Rafael stiffened. Someone was stalking Arianna. She’d paled, her hands fisting, and her lips shaking as if she’d seen a ghost—someone from her past who scared her out of her wits.

“Arianna, can you think of anyone who would try to follow you?” he asked in a soft voice.

“Yes, unfortunately.” She met his gaze, but her eyes had lost their joyful gleam. “I haven’t heard from him in five years. Now, I know why. He was stalking me through my phone.”

“Arianna, I was about to copy your contacts to the company phone, but I won’t now,” Carl said. “Which name should I leave out?”

“Don’t copy any contacts. Just print the whole list in case I’ll ever need them. I’ll enter my new contacts myself.”

“Still, give me your suspect’s name,” Carl insisted.

“Are you going to delete the tracking app?”
