“Only during the first bounce, and then I got used to it.”
“Would you do it again?”
“With you? Anytime.”
His penetrating gaze roved over her face, and his hands cupped her cheeks. “You’re my type of flying companion, Arianna.”
She returned his disarming smile. “You’re my trusted pilot, Captain Lopez.”
His chocolate eyes glittered with a thrilling flame. “Call me Rafael. I’m captain on the copter only.” His face came closer, his lips a mere inch from hers, fanning them with his warm breath. “All right, Arianna?”
She understood the question and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Yes, Rafael.”
His mouth claimed hers, burning her lips with unexpected fire, and his amazing fingers caressed her neck, igniting an incredible longing. She remembered the Beast and its aphrodisiac effect. She remembered Rafael’s hands on the copter’s commands. Would they feel as firm, knowledgeable, and passionate on her flesh?
His tongue parted her lips, and slowly caressed, teased, and excited. Unable to breathe, she hung onto his shoulders and pressed against him.
He released her mouth and nibbled at her ear, and she shivered. “Would you fly with me all the way, Arianna?”
“Anytime,” she moaned.All the time, Captain Charmer.
He kissed her again, more thoroughly and passionately than she’d ever been kissed. Restless and edgy, she returned his kisses with the same energy. His hand closed over her breast, and she melted against him. She wouldn’t mind slipping to the floor or better yet climbing back into his copter and...
“No.” She pulled back.
Stunned, he inched away. “What happened?”
“We can’t.”
“Why? I thought we were on the same wavelength?”
“Are you going to be my boss at SAMF?”
“I don’t think so.” He arched his eyebrows. “Who interviewed you?”
“Human Resources Director, Jack Lars, first and then Barbara Concetti.”
“She’s the Nurse Chief Officer to whom all nurses report. She’s the one who approved of your skills as a nurse and decided to hire you. I had no say in the matter. She’ll be your direct boss.”
“But you said you needed to test me.”
He chuckled. “This morning I went through a bad experience with a nurse who decided she couldn’t cope with the stress anymore. I wanted to make sure you had solid nerves and wouldn’t dump me after a couple of flights.”
“And if I hadn’t passed your test?”
“You would be flying with other pilots who are less picky than I am. Or you would be assigned to a medical jet plane.”
“But you said that aboard the copter—”
“Aboard the helicopter, I am Captain Lopez, responsible for everyone and everything. Aboard the helicopter, I expect the nurse and paramedic on duty to be professional. You’ll be Nurse Garcia, responsible for your patient. I won’t even hold your hand to help you up into the copter.”
“Okay.”
“Feeling better?”
Not really convinced after the scorching kisses she’d exchanged, she bit her lip, pondering his words.
“Don’t do that, babe.” With two fingers, he pulled her lip away from her teeth. “Those luscious lips deserve to be kissed not tortured.”
