Royce activated the windshield washer. Water flew and the wipers swung right and left, obscuring the view of the inside of the car. “Don’t worry. He didn’t look our way. You can come up now.”
She raised herself. “I’m not sure, but I think he had someone with him.” Royce didn’t answer. “Did you see someone next to him?” she insisted.
“Does it matter?”
“Royce, was there a woman next to him?”
“Maybe. Do you care?” He arched his eyebrows, tossing her a glance.
“No, I’m glad he’s enjoying himself. Did you write him a note?”
“I texted him that I would be away for two days.”
“Wow, he didn’t waste time using the empty place.”
“Enough talking about him, Susan. Can you forget him for a few days?” Royce sounded really annoyed.
She nodded and smiled. “What are the plans for tonight?”
“We resume our rushed and unduly interrupted activity.” He burst out laughing. “How about that?”
Interrupted? She didn’t think anything was rushed or unduly interrupted. Was he going to repeat his lovemaking tonight? How could he prolong it? She was already seething with impatience, unable to control herself. A familiar fire started in her belly and some sensitized areas tingled.
A disturbing thought nagged her. What if… “Royce, maybe we shouldn’t… I mean we’ve already done enough… I mean—”
“What’s wrong, babe? I thought you enjoyed it.” His warm palm covered her hand on her knee, squeezing reassuringly.
“I did. A lot, but I’m afraid… It’s not the time to get pregnant. I don’t need more complications.”
“Not to worry. I know what I’m doing. Ever heard of condoms?”
She blushed to her ears. “I didn’t notice you—”
“You were too busy feeling nice new sensations to notice anything.” He chuckled and glanced at her. He must have seen the redness spreading on her face and added, “Just keep enjoying your pleasure. I’ll take care of the rest. I promise there won’t be any complications.”
No complications? Did he mean no babies? Eventually, she would insist on having children—Royce’s babies as cute as he was as a young one.
He turned into a side street and she realized they had arrived at his mansion, herlove house.
