Page 14 of Always Mine

I start walking out of the room, but once I’m safely out of Mikey and Trish’s view, I flare my eyes at Luke before pretending to answer my phone.

I walk to their den and wait, keeping the phone to my ear, in case I need to pretend. A few minutes later, I hear quiet footsteps. Luke enters the room and quietly closes the door behind him. In seconds, his lips are on mine, and he has me pressed against the wall.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were going to be here tonight?”

He glides his lips over my neck, and I fight back a moan. “I thought it would be fun to surprise you. I didn’t think about how hard it would be not to touch you.” His hand threads my hair, tugging gently.

“Very hard,” I whisper.

He groans against my lips, pressing his erection into my hip.

“Still want to go out for dinner?” I tease.

“I just want dessert,” he rumbles into my collarbone.

“We might need to figure out excuses to leave early. What was your excuse for leaving the table?”

He stands up straight and smirks at me. “I told them I needed to fuck you in the den.” His lips drop to mine again, and I can’t think at all. He slowly pulls away and looks at me. “I told them I needed to take a piss. Which I need to do, so I should probably go. Use this editor thing to get out of here. I’ll have Cece call me with something.”

He pops a kiss on my cheek and walks for the door while I stay stuck against the wall. “Wait. Cece knows?”

He rolls his eyes. “I went to work late.”

I bite back a laugh. “Go on. I’ll see you soon. Love you.”

He walks back over and kisses me hard. “Fuck, I love you too.”

Once he’s gone, I squeeze my eyes shut, absolutely swooning.

When my heart stops pounding and the throbbing between my legs lessens, I take a deep breath and walk out. As I walk down the hall, I see Luke standing by the door with his leather jacket on. Everything starts throbbing again as I take him in.

I quickly bite the inside of my cheek and force a breath.

“Hey, you leaving already?”

Luke nods solemnly. I can tell he’s trying not to look directly at me. “Yeah. Cece called. She said there was some sort of issue with our credit card reader. I need to go lock myself in my office and figure it out.”

“Shoot. I—uh, my editor needed me to take a look at something tonight. I hate to ditch you guys though.” I wave my hand. “You know, I don’t have the boys. I can stay up and sleep in late tomorrow—”

“No,” Trish says, squeezing my arm. “It’s fine. I’m honestly really tired right now.”

I get a good look at her. She does look tired.

I catch her hand and give it a squeeze. “Are you okay?”

She nods. “Yeah, just a little run down. All those germy college kids,” she says with a laugh.

Trish runs the library at the local university.

“Besides,” Mikey pipes up, “this way Luke can take you home.”

“Oh, right,” I say, playing along. “I guess I don’t feel so bad then.”

After giving hugs to Mikey and Trish, Luke extends his elbow to me and gives me an adorable grin as Mikey rolls his eyes like we’re idiots.

Well played, Luke.

I crank it up a notch and purposely fawn over that.
