She giggles. “That I do. Bye.”

“Bye.”

I hang up and shake my head. It’s nice being able to talk to someone about this. Don’t get me wrong, I want to call Trishy and scream it from the rooftops, but until we’re ready to tell the boys, it’s easier not to tell anyone. And I want us to settle into this first.

I look back at my laptop screen, cursing the fact that even with a traditional publishing deal, I still have to do most things. Including coming up with a newsletter.

I’m about to jump back in when my phone goes off again. This time itisLuke.

Luke: I miss you. This is my life now. My job is not nearly as interesting as being with you.

Me: The novelty will probably wear off soon. ;) I’m doing a newsletter and my eyes are crossing. I wish you were here, but it’s probably best that you’re not or else I’d never get anything done.

Luke: Oh, I can think of something you’d get done.

Me: Dirty!

Me: I miss you too. When will you be home tonight?

Oh, shit. Home? Am I thinking of my house as his home now?

Luke: I’ll see you by six at the latest.

Me: Oh, just gonna ignore the H-word, huh?

My phone rings and I pick up quickly. I don’t get a word out before he starts talking.

“I’d love to think of your house as home, but I don’t want to rush, either.”

“You told me you loved me before we even went on a date.”

“Technically, we still haven’t gone on a date.”

“You’re not making it better.”

“Our relationship isn’t moving at a traditional pace. I wouldn’t want it to. We’ve spent the last year growing closer and have known each other most of our lives. I’m happy to stay at your house every night, wake up with you in my arms, but I know how hard you worked for that house. It’s yours. When you’re ready for me to live with you, I will happily, but that’s up to you, babe, and there’s no pressure.”

I blink in complete awe. “Why are you perfect?”

He laughs loudly. “I am not. Not even a little bit.”

“I disagree.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too. I’ll see you tonight.”

“Tonight, baby. Bye.”

“Bye.”

I hang up and stare at my computer screen.

God grant me the focus to finish this newsletter, the strength to not think about Luke naked, and the understanding that I maybe, probably, definitely will anyway.

Amen.
