“Hello?”

“Did you or did you not have hot sex last night?” Jade demands.

I can’t stop my giggles. I’m ridiculous. “Maybe.”

“Oh my god! I thought you weren’t a hookup girl. Wait. Does this mean you have a boyfriend?”

“Yes. It’s new. Sort of. No one else knows, so keep it on the DL.”

“Okay. So what does ‘sort of new’ mean?”

“Well—”

“No! Oh! Is it that guy? Your best friend’s brother? The hot one with the tattoos and long hair? Tell me everything!”

“Maaaaaybe.”

“It is! Yes! Oh. And hot sex, huh?”

I fan myself even though she can’t see me. “The kind I’ve dreamed of. Incredible. Astonishing—”

“Phenomenal?” she asks, teasing me with the words the characters in one of my series use to describe their sex life.

“Exactly. And he is… amazing. Truly. I was upset about the review and he literally called it bullshit, then told me all about how he’s read every single one of my books.”

“Oh. Zo. That is so sweet. Adorable.”

“I know. I didn’t believe him when he said it. Not that my ex is a standard by which others should be measured, but he never readanythingof mine. I know Trishy has, but she loves books. It’s her thing. I’m sure she forced Mikey to read a few.” I laugh out loud. “His way of supporting me was putting my books in the reception area of his shop and the dealership.”

Jade laughs too. “But—what’s his name again?”

“Luke.”

“Luke read them all?”

“Yep. Even told me which was his favorite.”

“Wow. Well, damn. I’m happy for you. You deserve it. Oh! You should write your real life love story. Pining after each other for all those years!”

“Oh boy. I don’t know about that.”

“Are you kidding? That’s like epic love stuff. If you don’t do it, I will,” she says. “I wrote about mine, after all. And it’s a great selling point when it’s based on real life.”

“Okay, I’llthinkabout it.”

“I’ll bet you’ll think abouta lot.”

“You have a dirty mind! But, yeah, I totally will. He’s like a god.”

“In bed?”

“In life. Everything. I’m a gooey puddle of mush for him.”

She squeals in my ear. “Ah! I love it so much! You deserve it. And you deserve all the good reviews.”

I hear a man’s voice with a southern twang in the background. “Hey, baby, whatcha doin’?”

I stifle a laugh. “Go have some fun! You’ve got a pretty great man there yourself.”
