Alex rests his head on her shoulder and whispers something in Zoey’s ear. She kisses his head, then looks back at me.

“Well, we’re in agreement. Yes. Yes. Yes.”

We both stand up, and our lips collide in a passionate kiss.

“In case I didn’t make it clear,” she purrs in my ear, “fuck yes.”

I kiss her again, then carefully place her grandmother’s beautiful ring on her finger.

Alex tugs on my shirt. “Can we get hugs now, too?”

They squish in between us, and my heart feels fuller than it’s ever been. Well, almost. Time to find out their reaction to getting a new sibling.

It’s only at the ten-week mark, but the doctor said everything has looked great, and we should be okay to tell people.

“Okay, boys. It’s your turn. Now, you each have two more ornaments to unwrap. They both have something special to tell you, so take it slow.”

They both nod furiously. We all sit down on the couch, and I wrap an arm around Zoey as we watch them rip into the wrapping paper.

“What is it? What is it?” A.J. asks.

Alex takes his time, pulling out the checkered black and blue square ornament that reads, “Promotion tooldestbrother.” He reads it several times, then looks at us as A.J. reads his.

“Promotion to older brother? Wait. What does that mean?”

Alex stares at Zoey. “Really?”

She nods her head. “You okay with that?”

He wipes away a couple of tears while nodding, then jumps into her arms.

“Hello? What does it mean?” A.J. sasses.

“It means Mom and Luke are gonna have a baby, dummy,” Alex answers.

“Alex…”

He shrugs. “I’m just saying.”

“Really? I don’t have to be the littlest anymore? This is the best Christmas ever!”

He bounces around the room as Zoey puts her hand on her stomach and leans back against me. I lean down and kiss her head. I want every Christmas to feel like this.

To say the boys were ecstatic about going to Disney World in a couple of months would be a massive understatement. They’ve told everyone at my parents’ house about it fifty times or so. But it’s helping them keep thewe’re-having-a-babysecret for the moment, at least. We’ll be telling everyone in a little while when we open presents.

“I just can’t believe y’all are engaged!” my mother yells as she bustles around the kitchen. “I’m so happy.”

I take a bite of shrimp cocktail as my dad sits down at the stool kitty-corner from me.

“I’m proud of you, son. I always have been, but seeing you truly start your life with a woman who loves and respects you, who you clearly think the world of, that’s all I ever wanted for you.”

“And Mikey and Trish are giving us a grandbaby! What an exciting year this is going to be.”

I bite back my smile. I can’t wait to tell them we’re having a baby, too.

“Having Zoey’s boys as a part of the family is a blessing, too,” my dad says.

“Oh, of course,” Mom says, coming to stand in front of me. “I started wondering if you wanted kids, Luke. You and Tara—”
