Again, she’s flitting from one subject to the next. I can tell she’s torn between the things that make her feel good and the things that make her feel bad.

“Why shouldn’t you say that?” I ask, and she hums.

“I don’t know. It’s not like you’re my boyfriend or anything. I miss our time together, though. And the Feast. I miss having the freedom of no shame and the anything-goes atmosphere. I’m bummed that we won’t be able to do that again.”

“I miss you too, Kitten. And I get it. The Feast was unique, but even if we don’t have that, it doesn’t mean we can’t have our own thing. Maybe we can find a new club to join.”

“Do you think so? I think I’d like that.” Her tone tells me she would. There’s a hint of excitement, and right now, Kitten needs something to look forward to.

“Yeah, beautiful, I’ll see what I can do.”

“Kitten?” Relief washes over me as I hear another voice in the background through the phone speaker. I never thought I’d be so happy to hear Fuckboy’s voice. Yet here we are.

The surprise of hearing Shaun’s voice has me jerking so much that I almost slip off the rocky ledge.

“Whoa, Kitten. Be careful.” Darting forward, Shaun grabs me by the shoulders and tugs me back, sitting down to pull me back further between his legs. The moment his arms wrap around me, I slump in relief. “What are you doing up here?”

“I needed phone service to call Ty.” It wasn’t a lie. I did. But it’s not the only reason I came up here. I needed to see something truly beautiful. I needed to remind myself that there’s so much beauty in this world that it outweighs the ugliness. Unfortunately, it just made me feel small and insignificant.

“You should have woken one of us. We would have come with you.” At the sound of Marcus’ voice, I glance up to see his concerned brown eyes trained on me as he sits on the rocky ledge next to Shaun and me.

“I kinda needed some privacy,” I admit, taking in the worry in Marcus’ brown eyes.

“We could have given you some space to make your call.” Garrett’s voice comes from my other side, and I crane my head up and watch his towering body lower onto the ledge. “It’s too dangerous to go off on your own like that.”

“What do you need to say to this Ty fucker that you can’t say in front of us?” Marcus grumbles, and I swing my head back to glare at him.

“Grady man, ease up.” Shaun hisses, squeezing me tighter to his chest.

“What? If we are gonna be in this fucking group thing, then there shouldn’t be secrets.” Marcus hisses back.

“What’s wrong, Grady? You think she’s gonna love him more than you?” Simon’s voice joins the conversation, and I turn in time to see him standing on the ledge next to where Garrett sits.

“Shut the fuck up, Hastings!” Marcus growls, shooting his mate a dagger.

I hate that I’m causing this conflict between them. If only I could learn not to be so selfish, then these guys wouldn’t be at each other’s throats.

“Why don’t you both shut the fuck up? You’re not helping.” Garrett snaps before he lifts my hand in his and presses his lips to it.

“Jared called you from the satellite phone. We heard your phone ringing, Kitten. Why didn’t you answer?” Shaun asks, and guilt grips my insides.

“I… just needed to talk to Ty.”

“Kitten! Put Fuckboy on the phone!”

Tyler’s voice comes through my phone speaker, and I jump, remembering that I’m still on the phone.

“Oh shit. Yeah, sorry, Ty.” I hand Shaun the phone over my shoulder, and a moment later, he stands up and takes a few steps away to chat.

“I’m sorry. I know I’m being a selfish prick here, but how the fuck is it fair that Bossi knows who this Ty guy is, and we don’t? How are we meant to make this work if there are different rules for different people?”

Ugh, I hate it when Marcus is all rational and shit.

“He has a point. Maybe it’s something we need to talk more aboutlater?” Garrett agrees, shooting Marcus a pointed look, and I nod, even though I know I can’t give them anything else. I can’t reveal Ty’s identity.
