Chapter One

Rhys

The rush of blood thunders in my ears as I take two steps at a time. My left cheek burns like a bitch, and my legs are still trembling, but that’s nothing compared to the panic racing through me.

“Ty!” I call out as I stumble up the last two steps.

“I got you, Kitten.” Shaun’s firm hands grip my hips from behind, steadying me as I reach the landing.

A sob escapes me as my emotions become almost overwhelming.

No Rhys! Not yet! Hold it together for a little longer!

Moving his grip to my shoulders, Shaun urges us forward until we reach the door, his fist banging loudly on the surface before taking a step back. My whole body is trembling now, so I wrap my arms around myself, barely covered by my t-shirt, with my legs and feet bare.

The door swings open, and there he is. Ty.

Unfortunately, his eyes barely glance at me as they lock onto the person standing behind me. Shaun’s not meant to be here. It was just meant to be me. Ty and I were meant to be talking about, well… hopefully not breaking up. It was just meant to be the two of us.

“What the fuck are you doing here, Fuckboy?”

“T-Ty.” I stutter, quickly gaining his attention.

When his eyes land on me, they widen, his pissed off glare plunging from his face.

“What the fuck is going on? What happened?” He steps forward, reaching out to grip my arms, his blue eyes roaming over my face and then travelling down my body.

“You gonna let us in?” Shaun hisses from behind me just as a salty drop slips from my eye.

“Kitten?” Ty whispers, ignoring Shaun as he brushes away my tear.

“I fucked up.” I barely get the words out before Tyler scoops me up in his arms, carrying me into his apartment.

“Shut the door behind you.” He grumbles over his shoulder to Shaun, and a moment later, I hear the door click shut.

I cling to Ty, curling into his chest as he carries me down the short passage to an open kitchen and living area. Tyler smells like home. Like a place that is safe. A place where you are always welcome. A place you are loved. It’s a battle for me to remain focused and not want to melt into everything that is him when my heart has missed his closeness so much.

“What’s going on, Kitten?” He sets me down on the kitchen counter, the cool stone against my bare legs momentarily taking my breath away. Tyler shifts back, his eyes locking on the spot on my cheek that feels like it’s on fire. I guess there’s a bruise or something left behind from Master Hill’s fist. “Someone better start talking right fucking now!” He turns his glare to Shaun then, who just looks to me for help.

“Ty.” My voice is a whisper, and I suck in a breath when Ty’s piercing blue eyes turn back to me. “I’ve fucked up. Bad. I was trying to help, but things got out of hand. I couldn’t go through with it, but it didn’t matter.”

“Through with what?” His eyes are fierce as his anger grows. He doesn’t like beating around the bush.

“Master Hill made me a deal.”

“What?” He steps away from me, his eyes turning to Shaun for something. I’m not sure what. “What deal?”

Shaun’s lips thin, but he doesn’t speak, so Ty turns back to me.

I try to smile, hoping to ease his anger, “I made a deal to return to the Feast nights with Madam Vik as my new sponsor, and part of it included that I spend an hour with Master Hill each Feast, and in return, he won’t expose you… and me.”

“Are you fucking kidding me right now?” Ty’s face turns red. I knew he’d be upset at my revelation. He’s going to lose his job when the truth about us comes out. Shit, he may even get arrested. I didn’t want that to happen, which is why I made the stupid deal in the first place. But now I’ve gone and made it worse by refusing Master Hill.

Why couldn’t you just let him have his way with you? It’s not like you haven’t whored yourself out in exchange for something before, Rhys!

“Why would you make that deal with him?” Ty bellows, fisting his hands in his hair, the anger laced in his tone making me flinch.

“Hey arsehole! Back the fuck off. Can’t you see she’s been hurt?” Shaun pushes in between Tyler and me, shoving Ty in the chest. He barely moves, but his brows come together as he frowns, and his blue eyes study me again.
