I want to believe Shaun, but it’s hard to when I feel this sense of dread in my gut.

Cherry AKA Kitten AKA Rhee AKA Baby Girl

I’m gonna give you my sister’s number.

GARRETT or any of you, text her if you’re in trouble or need help or need to get a message to me. She will pass it on to me.

While my head spins, my mind goes to dark scenarios of what could be happening to Garrett right now. I send through Char’s phone number in the chat and debate if I should go and wake my mum. I could be overreacting, though… right?

I wrap up my chats with the guys as my hour time limit ticks over. It’s ridiculous how emotionally attached I am to the device in my hand. Like taking it away will be the end of the world. It’s a stupid reaction, yet it happens anyway, because that device is my link to my guys. I really need to get my phone back.

Just when I’m about to slip out of my wardrobe, Char’s phone starts vibrating in my hand, and I glance at the screen to see the number. I recognise it but don’t know who it belongs to exactly, so I take a risk and answer it.

“Hello?” I keep my voice low and wait for a response.

“Hey, Kitten. I hope you don’t mind me calling. I really wanted to hear your voice.”

“Cass.” Tears well in my eyes as I give in to the ache in my heart. “I don’t mind. It’s so good to hear your voice.”

“Yours too, Kitten.” His tone sounds like he’s smiling, and I imagine his chiselled features softening as his lips spread into his infectious smile. “I miss you like crazy. I’m tempted to break you out of that house.”

I giggle quietly. “My knight in shining armour.”

“Well, more like your Casanova in shining armour.” He chuckles, and it sends warmth to the ache in my chest. “Kitten?” Shaun asks, his voice turning serious.

“Yes, Cass?”

“I don’t want you to worry about anything. I know you will, but promise me you will try not to. Me and the guys will find out if Gaz is ok, and we will sort out those fuckers at school. We aren’t going anywhere, so we will be pining after you for as long as your parents try to keep us apart. Keeping us apart won’t extinguish the fire I have for you, and I know the others feel the same.”

“Shit Cass. Come rescue me now. I wanna run away with you.”

His chuckle is quiet. “Where do you want me to take you after I rescue you?”

“To your house. Your loft bed.” I sigh. “That first night you took me there was so perfect. I felt so safe in your arms, looking up through the skylight at the passing storm. I want more of those nights, just the two of us in our own little bubble.”

“Fuck, I want that too. I haven’t even washed my sheets because they still smell like you, and I don’t want that to go away. I love our group time, but I fucking miss the me and you time, Kitten.”

“Same.” My chest aches again. “We can do that soon, right? Just you and me?”

“I’ll make it happen.” Shaun declares, and I smile at the conviction in his tone.

“You should really wash those sheets, dude.” I giggle, and his chuckle meets my ears.

“Not until I know you are about to dirty them up with me again.”

“Maybe I can leave you with one of my t-shirts or something. You can cuddle it every night.” I joke, but his voice is serious.

“I’d fucking love that, Kitten. I ache to be wrapped in your sweet scent again.”

Swoon!

“My scent is sweet?”

“Yes. It’s fucking intoxicating. I can’t get enough of you. It’s really fucking hard to share you sometimes.” Shaun’s tone is deadly serious, and it sends a pang to my heart.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper.

“No need to be sorry, Kitten. It’s natural for me to feel this way. I’m also a greedy fucker.”
