Once I’m done, and utterly exhausted from the emotions I revisited while delving into my memories, I fold the paper around a grainy photo of Julie from five years ago that the police had given me to memorise the other day. As if I needed to re-acquaint myself with her ugly face. I’d never forget that face. Ever!

Even though I feel emotionally drained after writing all of my darkest secrets on paper, I’m too antsy to sit still, so I paint the second coat of purple on my walls, leaving my window shut so I can get myself high on the fumes, then kind of regret it as a huge chemical headache hits.

Whoops.

Basically, my Tuesday is boring as bat shit. I have a big fat sleep when the exhaustion gets too much, and afterwards, I shift my furniture back into place with the paint now dry. I don’t attempt to put any posters back up on my walls yet. I’ll give it a couple of days to make sure the paint has settled before I go sticking stuff everywhere.

When Charlotte gets home from work, I take my story and slip into her room.

“Can’t a girl get five fucking minutes?” She snaps, and my brows lift.

“Good day?” I stir, and she rolls her eyes, flopping back on her bed.

“Before you ask for my phone, no, you can’t have it tonight. I’m staying over at Deena’s.”

“Oh, so you’re getting some action tonight, then?” I smirk, and she lifts her head off the bed to glare at me.

“I wish. She wants to talk aboutfeelings.” Char screws her face up and flops her head back again.

I giggle. “Shit. That’s fucked. You should tell her your sister needs you and stay home.”

That gets a snicker from her. “Yeah, right. As if I’m choosing you over sex.”

“I thought you weren’t getting any action?”

She shrugs. “The payoff of all the talking about feelings is the sex afterwards. Duh.”

I giggle again.

“Why are you here?” She sighs, sitting up.

I glance down at my hands, where I’m gripping the folded paper a little too hard. “Ah… I wrote down what I need to tell Hush.” I shrug, feeling self-conscious as I look back up to my sister's green eyes. “I kinda need a phone or laptop to send her this.” I lift the paper, and Char’s brows lift.

“Yeah. Right. I keep forgetting that you have no way of communicating, even though I know you want my phone for your guys.”

“Rhys?” Our mum’s voice calls through the door, and I bring the paper to my chest, ready to shove it down my top.

“Yeah?” I call back, turning as the door opens, and I dart my hands with the piece of paper behind my back as Cynthia fills the doorway.

“Oh, there you are. I need to have a chat with you.”

“Are you giving my phone back?” My eyes brighten hopefully, but she frowns and shakes her head.

“No. Come with me, please.” Cynthia says sternly, and my shoulders slump. I’m not sure what to do with the paper, but before I move, Char’s hand comes up and eases the folded paper from my grasp, coming to stand behind me as my mum turns her back on us.

“Want me to do it for you?” Char whispers in my ear, and I glance at her. She knows a bit about my past, but she doesn’t know the whole story. I’d been scared for anyone to find out how depraved it was, yet now, as I look into my sister's green eyes, I know I can trust her. She’s got my back.

“Yes, please,” I whisper back, and she smiles and nods before I walk off to follow my mum.

Cynthia leads me through the house to the front office, where we seem to have the “serious” talks these days. Will is already there waiting for me, and I instantly feel anxious. These talks lately are rarely good.

“So we’ve been monitoring your messages and any phone calls coming into your phone,” Cynthia states, and I glare at her because I hate that she is reading my private messages from my guys. The Julie stuff I don’t care about, but what’s said between my guys and me is private. “For the record, I’m not reading the messages from Marcus, Simon, Shaun, and Garrett.”

“But you are from Tyler, right?” I hiss, hearing the venom in my tone.

“Well, I had to make sure his conversations weren’t grooming you, Rhys.”

I lift a brow. “And did you find anything like that from him?”
