“Fucking hell Cin, she wants to watch porn while… while…” He gestures to the table lined with my beautiful vibes waiting for some action, and Cin’s eyes widen before she tries to smother a laugh.
“You think this is funny?” Will hisses at her, and she lets her laugh free.
“Oh, William. Can’t you see? She’s trying to shock you into getting her own way.”
“Well, it's fucking working. She can have her laptop back!”
“Yes.” I fist pump the air as Connor’s voice makes me freeze.
“Are they new toys?”
“They look cool.” Archie bounds into the room with his brother, standing before me, where I quickly hide Little Jim behind my back as Archie looks up at me. “What do they do?”
“Ahhh… they are rockets,” I say cheerfully, and Will yells.
“No, they aren’t! Go to your room, boys!”
Archie turns to frown at Dad. “You keep yelling at us lately. Maybe you need a time out, Dad.”
“Yeah, Dad. Maybe you need a timeout.” I agree, not so helpfully, and Will’s face turns so red that I think his brain is about to burst through his ears.
“That’s enough!” Cynthia yells this time. “Boys out now!” She points to the door before turning her eyes to me. “Rhys, put that stuff away. You’re not getting your laptop back.”
I pout. “My phone then?”
“No.” She snaps as the boys slump their shoulders and leave.
“You really expect me to fuck these things and get any satisfaction without a visual? You may as well put a fucking chastity belt on me!” I’m irrationally angry now because I feel so out of sorts. It’s torture having these things taken away from me, and while I’m trying to understand Cin and Will’s mindset about it, I don’t think they realise that it’s having the opposite effect.
“Now there’s an idea.” Will pipes up and I glare at him before I hold Little Jim up and flick his switch on. As my vibe comes to life, buzzing in my hand, I hook my thumb in the band of my sweatpants and start to tug them down.
I know, I know. It’s all sorts of fucked up to do this in front of my rents, but my crazy has kicked in, and I’m feeling so on edge that I’m almost scared another bender is about to consume me.
“Rhys! Stop!” Cynthia leaps forward and grabs Little Jim from my grip, tossing him across the room like he’s meaningless before she spins to Will. “Get my bag. Her meds are in the side pocket.”
I freeze, sweatpants at my knees, as my heart seizes.
“No! Wait! Please. I’m stopping. See!” I pull my pants back in place and hold up my hands just as the doorbell rings.
Cin and Will glance at each other, and I take that moment to bolt past them from the room towards the front door.
“Stop, Rhys!” Will yells, but I don’t stop. I can’t let them drug me. I can’t let them take control over my body like that again. I didn’t do anything wrong.
Ok, so maybe I’m being a brat, but it’s not bender-worthy behaviour… is it?
I reach the door and swing it open to see four sets of familiar eyes staring at me before they widen and look over my shoulder. I don’t think. I act and leap into Simon’s arms like a spider monkey.
“Don’t let them drug me.” I whimper, actually feeling scared of Cynthia and Will. Maybe it’s some sort of PTSD from the last few times that Cin had to use the drugs on me to get me into line. But those times, I was so far gone, I didn’t even know my own name or care about anything but staying in my high. I’m not like that this time, so why would she want to drug me?
Because she’s the same as all the adults in your life, Rhys. She wants to control you.
“What?” Garrett hisses, his voice a deep rumble that makes me jerk in Simon’s arms, and I turn back to see Garrett step in between my parents and me.
“Rhys, it’s not like that. It was just a threat. I wasn’t actually going to use the meds. I just needed you to stop trying to use the vibrator.” I would laugh at Cynthia’s words if I didn’t feel like she was lying. She had every intention of using the meds to sedate me into a manageable zombie version of myself.
“Uh… Excuse me? You were going to drug her?” Shaun hisses this time, and my dad growls.
“This is none of your business.”
