“He is everything,” I confessed. “But I have not told him I love him. Our relationship has, so far, been physical.”

It was not completely true, but I did not want to hold on to so much hope just to be disappointed.

“He is not a man who will just involve himself with anyone, Your Majesty. He loves you. He just does not know it yet. Or maybe he does now that he has not seen you for a while.”

“You are right,” I exhaled audibly. I blinked furiously, not allowing myself to cry. I had to keep myself together.

“Go to him, then, Your Majesty. He needs you as you need him. Forget the contract. The drought is gone, and you have brought goods from Arrowspear to Mogochislenia. He was supposed to be here with you, but Razuku and the rest are doing a wonderful job. They are loyal. They love their king.”

“Mm. Yes, they do. Don’t they?”

Francilia looked at me, and I looked back. Her eyes were dancing with mischief, and I imagined my expression mirrored hers.

“Are you thinking about Cora, Your Majesty?”

“Yes, Francilia.”

“You are right, Your Majesty. She is a better fit to get more information from Ari. Ari may think that she hates you and is still devastated over King Metheus’ marriage.”

“Let us get more information about Ari. Then, I will return to Metheus. You are right. He may need me there. One thing is sure, though. I need him.”
