“You’re right. I guess I should head back to Langford, huh? Jeremy probably thinks I was abducted by aliens.”

“Sure, because that’s a reasonable explanation,” Tilly said. “Couldn’t it just be that you’ve been sleeping at your girlfriend’s place all week?”

She stopped, frozen in place, all of the color draining from her cheeks. “I mean, um…did I just…um…shit. Oh, God. I, uh…I have to take a shower now.”

Jumping out of bed, I ran to her, and she turned away, her cheeks almost as red as her hair. She placed her hands over her eyes, and I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her close.

“Say it again.”

“What?” she said, “No!”

“Tilly,” I whispered. “Please say it again.”

“Fine,” she said, turning around to face me. “Girlfriend.”

“My whole year, totally made…with just one word.”

She sighed. “So, I don’t need to be mortified? Because I am.”

“Why would you be?”

“Because it’s been, like, a week or something, right? I mean, isn’t that a little fast?”

“When you think about it, though, it’s been almost three years,” I said softly. “And I told you I’d wait for you. I meant it.”

“I know you did.” She gave me a weak smile. “And that was seriously the sweetest thing anyone’s ever said to me.”

“I’m not seeing anyone else. Are you?”

“Um, obviously not. Don’t be ridiculous.” She rolled her eyes but wrapped her arms around the back of my neck, pulling me close. “Besides, I’m the one who said the word girlfriend.”

“Good point,” I said, kissing her neck. “So, I’m thinking that makes us official, huh?’

“I’m thinking so, yeah.” Her pale cheeks turned pink, and she pressed her lips together like a child holding on to a secret. “But, here’s the thing…”

“Uh-oh,” I said, pulling my head back, my eyebrows pinched. “There’s a thing?”

“I have to shower and get to work,” she said playfully before biting down on her lower lip, giggling mischievously.

“Oh, really?” I asked, grabbing hold of the back of her thighs and throwing her over my shoulder.

“Oh, my God, Wyatt! Put me down!” she yelled through laughter, smacking my back playfully with her palms. “I’m gonna be laaaaaaate.”

Throwing her gently onto the bed, I covered her with my body and pushed the hair from her eyes. “Okay.”

“That’s it? Okay?”

“Were you hoping for more of a challenge?”

She looked like a kid with her hand caught in the candy jar. “I mean, maybe.”

“You’re crazy,” I said, shaking my head and looking down at her face in awe. She really was the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen.

And she was mine.

That thought made my heart burst inside my chest.

“I thought that was one of the things you loved about me?” she teased.
