“Fine, um…like Child’s Play. It was so ridiculous that it didn’t scare me. But a tornado ripping my family’s home apart…now that freaks the shit out of me.”

“Language,” Dutch said with a wink. “I’m just playing; do your thing.”

I laughed. “The more realistic something is, the more it scares me, I guess.”

“Got it. So, like, slasher flicks are okay.”

“Sure, within reason. The Halloween movies are good, and I don’t mind Friday the 13th. But When a Stranger Calls or Poltergeist? Oh, my God, I can’t handle either of those.”

“Tilly, sometimes I think we were separated at birth. I feel exactly the same way about Poltergeist,” Naomi said with wide eyes. Naomi didn’t look scared often, but I could tell there was something about that movie that got under her skin.

“Did you know that people claim there was a curse on that movie set?” I asked.

“What do you mean?”

“Several people died who worked on that movie.”

“For real?” Dutch asked, looking curious.

“Yeah, it’s weird as hell. The oldest daughter died, some crew members, and eventually, the little girl, too.”

“Carol Ann? She died?” Dutch looked like he was scarred for life. It was sweet.

“Aww, Dutch,” I said, patting him on the arm.

“I had the biggest crush on her when I was, like, six.”

“You had crushes when you were six years old?”

“Yeah. You didn’t?” Dutch looked genuinely surprised.

“Nah, totally normal. I had a crush on Craig T. Nelson after watching that…even though I was scarred for life,” Naomi said with a wink.

“What’s the other one? You know the one about a stranger or something?”

“When a Stranger Calls,” I said. “I saw it a long time ago, but oh, my god, I haven’t wanted to babysit ever since. This girl is watching these neighbor kids and keeps getting this call from some creepy dude asking if she’s checked the children.”

“Ew.”

“Oh, yeah, and it’s all in how he says it. It’s suuuuper creepy.”

“Okay, so does he bust on in and kill her?”

“No, that’s the thing. She calls the police, and they trace the call…and they discover that the call is coming from inside the house.”

The bell above the door rang, and Dutch jumped, screeching a little bit. Without meaning to, I cracked up, holding my hand in front of my mouth, trying not to embarrass him.

Hannah walked in, looking flustered. “You okay, Dutch?”

“Um, yeah, but remind me never to babysit anybody. Or answer the phone. Ever.”

“I don’t understand.” The wind had blown her hair into her eyes, and her mouth was pulled into a scowl.

“We’re just talking movies,” Naomi said, shaking her head casually.

“Hey, you okay, Boss Lady?” Dutch asked. “You look like you were caught in a tornado…which is ironic as hell.”

“Why?”
