“Sure, if you watch Hallmark movies and read cheesy romance books.”

That did it. “I do on both accounts and cheesy is all in the eye of the reader. I happen to love it when a man and woman find their fated love.”

He watched her and something akin to understanding flashed in the depths of his eyes for the briefest of seconds before curiosity replaced it. Or was that amusement at her expense?

“Look, I’m not that bad of a guy.” Marshall shoved his hands in his pockets, his jacket to the side again and his sleeve already rolled up. He kicked back in his chair and she knew without seeing that he’d crossed his feet at the ankles under his desk.

“I am curious as to your rules.”

“Yeah, maybe another time. Right now, we need to find a bride that fitsyourrules.”

“I'll tell you what. For every rule you give me, I’ll tell you the name of a potential prospect. Deal?”

She didn’t see any other way about this unless she wanted to go stand on a street corner with a large, heavy sandwich board sign around her shoulders that read: Wanted—one bride for one billionaire sex god.

Yeah, not in this lifetime.

“Deal.” As soon as the word left her mouth a sharp pang stabbed her through the heart. Someone else with Marshall? Why did she fight for this so hard?

Marshall rose from his chair and crossed to the left-hand side where, with a tug of a small lever built into the wall, the wall opened up to reveal a hidden bar.

A few decanters glistened in the late afternoon sunlight. He bypassed those for the can of dark brew. Figures. He was getting ready for a long night of back and forth.

Boy, did he have another thought coming.

He took the liberty of adding two lumps of sugar and a dollop of cream before passing over a hot mug for her.

He already knew her taste for coffee? “Thank you.”

He glanced at her while grabbing his own.

“You go first.” Juniper tossed the challenge out and waited to see if he’d take the bait or pass it off to her.

“Okay,” he nodded. “Here’s one for you. Simona Campbell.”

She sat down her coffee on his desk and anchored her hands on her hips. “You’re kidding.”

“Hand on the Bible. Now it’s your turn.”

“Back up for a second. You can’t just toss out Academy Award-winning names of an actress and not explain.”

He chuckled and took the seat on the couch on the opposite side of the office and pulled her over to join him. She followed. How could she not? This story would be too good to miss.

“We went to school together. She was my date for my senior prom.”

“You’re serious.”

His eyes filled with laughter. “As a pastor on Sunday trying to save his flock of sinners.”

Long pieces of hair slipped from his neatly brushed hair from when he ran his hands through the thick locks earlier to brush along his forehead. It gave him another look. From powerful billionaire to sex guy next door. One she’d recently come all over. Her heart quickened. The kind of guy a girl could fall for in two and a half heartbeats or less.

“Your turn and I don’t want fluff. Give me something juicy.”

Juicy, huh? “A man that knows how to make coffee.” She raised her mug and sipped and let out a heavy sigh. “Heaven! Where did you learn how to make such a good pot?”

“Touché. Practice. Lots and lots of practice. Usually all after my secretary went home for the evening”

“Next.” She thrust a hand up to pause the conversation. “A name I can actually call this time and that is not Hollywood royalty.”
