“That’s what you are afraid of, woman? Him punishing you?” He pins me with incredulous eyes.

I turn a shade of red I’ve never been before. “I’m not leaving here without my sister.”

“You are either thirty different shades of fucked in the head or brave. I can’t decide which. Ares is the first fucking person I am calling as soon as I get your fucking sweet ass off this property.Ifyou don’t get us both killed first. My God. How did you—” His words die off as he connects the dots.

“Remind me to lock my doors from now on.”

“There won’t be a next time.”

“Damn straight. None of us are going to survive your loyalty.” He shakes his head. “I told Ares he needed to cuff you and keep you out of the way.” His words are clipped, almost bitten off at the ends. Each one falls like tossed grenades at my feet.

My anger explodes. “Fuck. You,” I snarl in his face feeling braver than I should. “Nobody will cuff me ever again.”

Dragon snatches me up and gets a good grip on my arm. I’m being hauled through a black door and down another hallway further and further away from Polaris.

“I told you I would take care of your sister. You need to trust when people say something they will follow through.”

“I don’t trust you. I don’t trust anyone. No one has stepped up to save my sister or me. Ever. It’s me and only me.”

A pissed-off Dragon is in my face, lips peeled back growling. “When a Savage Son gives his word, it’s considered written in blood.”

I growl right back. “LikeIsaid. I don’t know you.”

“But you know Ares. He’s fought for you. And the brotherhood has bled and killed for you. What? That means shit to you?”

For a long second, I stare up at him in silence. He’s not wrong. Not even a little.

“You’re going to end up getting someone killed.”

Using my anger as a driving force I land an elbow in his gut. He doesn’t grunt or budge. He just keeps trucking for I don’t know where.

I dig in my heels. “Get your fucking hands off me. I will not leave here without my sister.”

He’s not listening. Another ten feet and there’s another door.

“Let me have the keys to her cell and I’ll be out of here before anyone knows I’ve ever been here.” I’m dragged into an unforgiving wall of muscle.

He hulks over me, his massive size dwarfing me in comparison. “Are you out of your goddamn mind, woman? You’re lucky to be leaving here at all.IfI can get you to the tree line before the dogs scent you. They like a good chase.”

His leather jacket hangs open and he’s too busy holding me to realize he’s given me full access to his gun.

I grab it from the holster under his arm and he releases me just as quickly. The next three point two seconds of my life are nothing but a blur of black leather and male.

I’m against a wall. My legs spread wide over the thigh of a man my Russian said I could trust.

I’m beginning to think otherwise.

One hand holds the hand holding the gun to my side while the other rests over my chest just above my breast.

Breathing heavily I hold his gaze. There’s no way he’s not feeling the pounding of my heart ripping a hole in my chest.

He leans in, the full weight of his body pressing me into the rough brick at my back. “No one touches my gun unless they want the full weight of what I have to offer coming at them.”

Inhale. Exhale.

Lips peel back in a snarl. “Do. You. Understand. Me,” he clips next to my ear.

Hard eyes blaze into mine. The scent of his cologne is light and soothing. Something the man is not.
