But that is not an issue now.

I follow the blow with one to the face. Rear back and do it again and again until the hell spawn falls to his knees and my knuckles are covered in his blood.

“Ares, no. You need to stop,” Nova cries out. From fear for my soul? I scoff. There’s nothing that can save me now.

I hear her but the raging beast in me is snarling and thirsty. I have to feed the beast. My brother can not live to hurt another soul.

I stab my fingers into his hair and yank his face up to mine. Breathing heavily I can feel the piercing pain of at least a couple of cracked ribs.

“Beg me to live!” I roar. “Beg me and I might send you back to our father in a body bag instead of as a bag of ashes so he can see what I’ve done to you.”

“And I’m the monster. Be careful, moy brat; you are dangerously close to becoming me.” Harsh and labored breaths shake his chest. Peels of laughter escape my brother’s bloody mouth. I shake his head and drive my fist into his mouth until the sound stops.

“Ares.” Sweet and tender. Everything I am not. The light stretches across the expanse but nothing can reach me this deep in the darkness.

Hope has the man inside me reaching for the anchor of my white-haired angel’s voice but my demons are stronger and won’t stop until the filth at my feet draws its last breath and I hand his soul over for judgment.

“Father is dead, brother. I killed him.” His black eyes shine with bitter amusement despite the obvious pain I see there too.

Fires of hell erupt within me. “No!” I bellow. I wanted the pleasure of ridding the earth of his disease.

“He was taking too long to die. The fucker wanted to keep his power. I wanted it. I took it. Just like I’m going to take your whore and her sister.”

There’s a commotion beside me and I see Rage and Riot burst through the arched entryway, bringing the Genesis men with them. Terror-filled blue eyes land on mine. There isn’t a second’s warning before chaos ensues.

The asshole holding a gun to Nova’s head swings his arm around as if he stands a chance against the five of them. Nova does the only thing that can stop my heart mid-beat.

She lunges, tackling the unsuspecting beast of a man.

My brother uses my distraction to surge to his feet. Pain distorts his face but he seems driven to return the beating I gave him.

I smile, relishing the idea of taking him to his knees again.

The crack of a gun goes off. Glass shatters and rains over me. Nicks and slashes of cool edges slice into my face and neck.

“Stooooop! Stop now or I swear to God as my witness I will kill you both.”

The barrel of my Glock points at my heart.

Regret tightens in my chest the longer I look into her eyes. Why did I let it go this far? I should have stopped my brother a long time ago.

“You two can beat each other into a bloody pulp for all I care. But I will not be part of your savagery.” The gun swings to my brother who smiles back at Nova. “Polaris. Let’s go.”

The quietness in her voice is in distinct contrast to the hatred in her tone.

I risk a bullet but take another step in her direction. Another bullet zings by my head.

“Do. Not. Move. Last warning.”

I freeze and slowly raise my hands in a gesture for her to know no one will hurt her. Especially me.

“Nova,” I say in a warning voice.

“You’re going to be a beauty when I get you on your knees and choking on my cock.”

I turn on my heel and shut my brother up with a left hook. He stumbles back, glass crunching underfoot. He falls to a knee, hunching over.

“You want me to shut up; you’ll have to kill me first.”
