I don’t know the whole story, but after seeing the scar up the side of her beautiful face, it’s too bad her father is already maggot food. Or there would be two deaths we’d be planning instead of one.

“With these reporters and now the badges on our asses all the time, I need you to do some recon for me. I doubt the Druid is keeping to the Titan properties. He’s too smart for that. He’ll bid his time. He knows Asena is with me and he’d be right in thinking I’m coming for him. She mentioned something last night about him forcing her father to sign everything over to him. But I know how her father will keep important financial information locked away and that is what the Druid is really after. Without the money backing his mouth, he isn’t as powerful as he thinks.”

“If I locate him, are you sayin’ you wanna take the fight to him?”

I nod. Thoughts of a peacefully sleeping Asena cross my mind. She deserves peace of mind. I can only imagine the hell she went through after she thought I died in front of her.

“Damn straight. I need to strike first. Neutralize the enemy before they can try and do the same to Asena and me.”

She hasn’t told me anything of what her father put her through, but as soon as I take care of the Druid, I’ll get her to open up to me.

“And your brothers? Why did you call me here instead of working with the Savages? Isn’t this what you do? Hunt the bad guys and take them out.”

“To put it frankly. Yes.”

“So why aren’t you guys out there hunting this piece of shit down? He shot you up and put Asylum at risk. Isn’t that begging for a Savage takedown?”

I pause. “Shit isn’t right with Ares and me right now and I seem to be the only one pissed he lied to us. I told him to back off and to let me handle it. I have forty-eight hours to find my guy.”

“Not a lot of time.”

“It’s enough.”

“Where is the girl?”

“Back at the compound. I need to move her to a location no one knows about. Right now, she’s a blinking red target.”

“And then?”

We both lean back and nurse a fresh round of whiskey. He props an ankle on his knee and I loosen the buckles of my gun harness to keep the leather from digging into my stitches.

“Lure him into the opening and take him down.” I shrug like I have it all figured out. Which I don’t, not even close but getting his attention off of Asena and on me is where my priority is right now. I’ll go from there.

“I can tell you’ve given this a lot of thought.”

The sarcasm coming off Reaper is thick. I chuckle darkly. I scrape a hand down my face so my overly intuitive friend doesn’t see me visibly shaking at the thought of the Druid finding Asena before I can put two into his chest.

“I can pull some men up from Haven. Us and the rest of the Savages. We’ll be good to go by this time tomorrow.”

Reaper stands and pulls his phone out of his pocket.

“No man. I can’t ask the Savages to help with this. It isn’t their fight. I just need you to locate him. He’s not looking for a Sinner. He’s gunning for me, a Savage. That will give me time to get Asena out and tucked away.”

His thumb pauses over his right-hand man’s name on the screen.

“Why have you waited so long to take him out? What haven’t you told everyone? You didn’t have a problem going undercover when Ares needed you to infiltrate the Volkov compound. Every one of your patched brothers would die for you. So why aren’t you turning to them?”

He shuts his phone off and stuffs it back into his pocket, waiting for an answer. I either give it to him or he walks. I don’t expect anything else from him because I would do the same.

“The Druid and I go way back. When I first met him, he was a few years older than me and had just started working under my father. Back when my father was the right-hand man to the Titan king, instead of him.

“This girl’s father?”

I nod. “Asena’s, yes. Twisted shit, huh.”

“I’d say.”

“My father was a killer. He raised me to be one too. And then I ran away. I was just barely eighteen and disgusted with his life. I changed my name and did everything I could to distance myself from him.”
