I start tossing out weapons and shells. “Agreed. Given I’m still alive. You should know, the Druid put a contract out on my head. I’m sure these fuckers on Asena are going to try to collect on that.”

“Let ’em try.”

That’s Riot. On goes the bulletproof vest, and then he sets to arming his double Desert Eagle 44 magnums just like I did.

Ghost walks in and starts pushing shells into a shotgun. As Ares’ cousin, I shouldn’t question his loyalty but he was an assassin for the enemy not too long ago so I’m a little stabby when I see a gun in his hand.

“Kogo ya strelyayu?”

Rage, who helps pass out more shells, answers him. “You shoot whoever the fuck isn’t wearing our cut, brother.”

The rev of a motor cuts through all the chit-chat and I throw the front door open just as Asena revs a gray Rubicon Jeep straight up the stairs.

I’m out the door and yank hers open, uncaring if she has time to throw the machine into park.

“They’re close. Like hella close.” Covered in mud, shaking, and her hair nothing but plastered red to her head and face. The sight of her is nothing short of beautiful.

“I know. I can see the flash of their headlights.”

I wrap an arm around her middle, barely giving her a chance to put boots on the ground before I have her moving inside. Shattered glass falls off her and old habits have me checking for bullet holes and blood.

Two Mercedes are hot on her ass coming up either side of the drive. I shove her into Ares’ arms and slam the door, a thick sheet of metal designed to keep the bad guys out. There’s some weight to it so I lean everything I have against the damn thing until I hear the snick of the bolts sliding into place.

Bullets pelt the glass of the front windows and ping off the door, but the impact doesn’t break through.

Asena peels out of Ares’ arms and whirls those pretty blue-green eyes on me. There’s chaos in those depths and every time I look into them, she pulls me deeper.

“They’re bulletproof? I thought we were all going to get cut up with bullet holes. I didnotsee tonight turning out like this.” Her hands move to her heated cheeks.

She is breathing heavily, lips parted, and looking fucking gorgeous. And so fuckable right now.

What? I’m human and when my woman turns me on, I have no control over what my body does. Given I thought I might never see her again after telling her to leave, I’ll take the chance of getting shot again to have her by my side.

Bear comes out of somewhere ushering the club girls and a pissed-off-looking Fergie into the basement. “Go with Bear. He’ll keep you safe in the basement safe room.”

Asena peels herself off the floor and unholsters my second gun. “I might not have the best aim, but I know how to pull a trigger. I’m not going anywhere.”

Another wave of bullets pelts the windows.

Ghost says something before he disappears with a sniper rifle and a wicked expression that tells me someone is about to die.

“Are we going to huddle here behind glass we hope doesn’t break? Someone has a better plan, right?”

Ares turns to Asena. “How did they find you?”

“Long story.” She fumbles around for something under her shirt and produces a wad of folded papers. “I went back for these. The Druid forced my father to sign a Will and Testament under duress the night of my wedding to his right-hand assassin. But he didn’t know about these. Or I thought he didn’t.”

“And you went back for that alone? Why?”

“That is what I want to know.” I bark.

“I thought—”

Her words are cut off when I hear a familiar pounding on all four edges of the door.

“Shit! Grab the handle and pull hard and fast. Go it? On one.”

I grab Rage’s shotgun and signal to Riot. It takes both of them to swing the heavy door open far enough for me to unload a round into an asshole’s chest.
