“He’s also opening a spa with a similar program. A weekend getaway for those needing some spiritual realigning,” my mother added.

“Yeah, like losing their marbles on ayahuasca or some other mind-bending concoction,” I said.

Chase chuckled, while my mother gave me her stern, don’t-poke-fun-at-our-choices look.

Deep down, however, I just wanted her to be happy. And although she skipped through life believing in fairies, my mother seemed to like having a man around. Something to do with yin and yang, she’d explained, when admitting to feeling unbalanced without a male around.

I wished I didn’t need a man in my life. But as I regarded Chase, whose undivided attention both confused and delighted me, I knew that going solo would be as difficult as losing a limb. I hated how weak that made me.

“The spa’s opening next weekend, if you’re interested,” Mitch said, shaking his head at the offer of vodka.

“I could use a healthy weekend away,” Chase said, giving me one of his bedroom smirks.

A weekend of uninterrupted fucking? Yes, please.
