“D,” I sigh. “Please, can’t you just be happy for me. I’m happy.” I tighten my hold on Ryder and reach for Styx with my other hand.
“They make me happy.”
“Yeah.” He scrubs a hand down his face, everyone silent around us. Watching. Waiting.
“D,” I plead.
“Ah fuck, I’m going to get some more drinks.”
“More, do you think—”
“We can’t celebrate without another round of drinks.”
“And what are we celebrating?” I ask, hope blooming inside me.
He gives me a faint smile.
A Diesel smile.
And then he says, “Family.”

“You good, Kitty Kat?” Styx asks me as we watch Diesel, Ryder, and Jax duke it out at the darts board.
We’ve been here a couple of hours. Drinking, talking, listening to the guys share stories from their childhoods. Even with Diesel’s lingering disapproval, it’s been nice. Normal.
It’s been exactly what I need.
“Yeah, I’m okay.”
He drops a kiss on my head and River shoots me a knowing smile.
“You two are so cute,” she says.
“How many times have I got to tell you, Angel, bikers aren’t cute. We’re mean motherfuckers who eat little girls like you for breakfast.” Zach nuzzles her neck, sucking and licking and making River shriek.
Styx chuckles, the sound rolling through me.
“So, Johnson,” Zach says, finally releasing River. “Are you and Montrou, you know…”
“No, I don’t know. What are you—”
“Zach,” River warns.
“Relax, Angel. We’re all friends, right, brother? What’s a little sex talk between friends. So do you?”
“What the fuck is he talking about?” Styx asks me, and I snicker.
“I think he means do you and Ry, you know… fool around… with each other.”
“The fuck?” Styx chokes out. “To each their own, Stone. But I’m a pussy kind of man.”
“Didn’t say you weren’t. But you’re telling me if she wanted to watch the two of you together, you wouldn’t do it? Just once?”
