I let out a breath. “You guys, I really did. Everything about it was amazing. I never thought I’d enjoy it as much as I did.”

“Then, what’s next? Do you think you’ll perform with him again?” Ellie asks.

I shrug. “Not sure. He didn’t really say anything.”

“But you want to,” Leah singsongs.

“I really do! We’ll see though. He might have only wanted it to be a one-time thing.”

“Then, you should perform by yourself!” Ellie shrieks with excitement.

I laugh out loud. “You do realize I’d need a band, right? Otherwise, I’d just be singing karaoke.”

She rolls her eyes. “Semantics. We could totally figure something out. Aren’t there some guys from school who play guitar or drums?” She stops and starts to jump up and down, shaking the camera. “You can start your own band, and we’ll be your girl groupies.”

Leah and I both laugh at her excitement.

“Whoa, girl. I only sang a few songs. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”

She shrugs, not ashamed of her idea or actions. “Hey, dream big or don’t bother dreaming at all. I’m going to make this happen even if you don’t.”

I grin and nod. “Fine. If you can find me people who play guitar or drums, then we can at least think about it.”

She jumps up and down again. “I love a project. I’m on it!” She disconnects her portion of the call, leaving Leah and me laughing.

“I didn’t think she meant right this second,” I say.

“You know Ellie. She has a one-track mind, and she’s more determined than anyone I know, so you’d better get ready because I wouldn’t doubt that she can put a band together for you.”

Butterflies swirl in my stomach as I think about what just happened and what could possibly be coming.

“Yep, get ready, girl. Shit’s about to get real, and I’m going to be here for every minute of it!”

I take a deep breath and try to force a smile. “I guess I should decide what kind of music we should play.”

“Hell yes!” she cheers. “We’re so doing this, and I can’t wait to be front row at your first show. Which, mind you, I would have been if you’d told us!”

By her laugh, I know she’s kidding and not too upset about missing the event.

Ellie was not kidding when she said she was getting a band together for me. It wasn’t even hours later when my phone started ringing with a few people who might be interested. I told them all to meet at Java Jitters.

At the time, it sounded like a great idea, but as I walk to the downtown location, all I can think about is,What the hell am I doing? I don’t know the first thing about starting a band.

When I mentioned my nervous jitters to Matthew, he was encouraging, but when he asked if I wanted him to talk to his dad, all of a sudden, things felt really real. I asked him to hold off until I had at least an inkling that this might actually work, so we didn’t waste his time.

As I open the door to Java Jitters, I glance around the room to see if anyone is here yet. I purposefully left my house early, so I could get something to drink and get situated before everyone else arrived.

Jessie, the owner, greets me as I step up to the counter. “Hey there, Hannah. I hear you put on quite the show with Tucker. Bummed I missed it.”

I grin shyly. “Thank you.”

She must feel my nervousness, as she’s quick to change the subject. “So, what can I get you?”

“I’ll take a muffin and a vanilla latte, please.”

She grins. “Coming right up. I’ll bring it out to you.”
