There were many things to organise, many issues that needed to be handled, but Rafael ignored all of them in favour of sweeping her up his arms and carrying her to his bedroom.

And they began their future together right then and there.

EPILOGUE

RAFAELWOKEWITHa start to find the bed empty. He thought he might know where Lia was, so he got out of bed and went downstairs, and sure enough, his wife was sitting on the couch, their son and daughter in her arms.

The twins had obviously just finished a feed and, miracle of miracles, were lying there quietly.

He leaned in the doorway a moment, taking in the sight of his brand-new family. Twins had been unexpected, but he and Lia had coped and their birth had indeed been the gift she’d promised it would be.

As was she.

The fallout from his kidnapping her had been intense and people had talked of nothing else for a good month. It had helped that Matias had given his blessing almost immediately, telling Rafael that, actually, it had felt like a weight had lifted off his shoulders and that he had someone else he’d had his eye on for quite some time.

The transition of power had been smooth. Matias had become King and he’d promptly married the woman he’d loved since he was a boy, whom no one knew about.

Lia’s parents had been disappointed, but not for long. Not once the twins had been born.

All in all, it had worked out very well.

Rafael moved into the room and went over to the couch. Lia looked up and smiled, the love shining in her eyes making him ache.

But it was a welcome pain, a sweet pain.

And when he took his daughter in one arm and curled his wife and son in the other, he let it flow through him.

He’d started out with winter in his soul and Lia had been the spring, thawing him out.

Now it was summer and he knew there would be sunshine to the end of his days.

Sunshine in his heart for ever.
