Epilogue

Six months later-

“You meanyou don’t have an architect in the Steels?” Amber teased as they waited on Maggie’s porch for the one Mountain had hired to show up.

The address was easier to locate than the newly assigned one he received from the county when they registered the address for land he’d bought from the old rancher. A new home, new sewer, electricity and turn in for the driveway, meant a new address. No matter how fast GPS programs were when it came to updates, there was little to no chance the man would be able to find the place.

“We are lacking in our recruiting,” he said as the spring thaw meant the man could get accurate measurements and a good idea of land.

“Are you sure you want to build and not just stay in the house, now that we have it a pretty,” she cooed.

He kissed the top of her head. “If we build right, our room could be a significant ways away from the kids,” he reasoned. “Which means no more biting your pillow unless you really want to.”

“You mean, I’d be able to have kid free weekend sex on a Tuesday?” she mocked.

“Hell, maybe even on Thursday, if you play your cards right.”

“You don’t say,” she said as she squeezed his hand tight. “Exactly how big is this house going to be? Or were you thinking of installing noise dampening features?”

“We could do both,” he said. “Basically, we need three bedrooms and four bathrooms.”

“Only three?” she questioned.

“Okay, four, then we could have a guest or were you wanting a den?”

“I was thinking we might need five,” she said. “Just in case we need a nursery.”

Mountain’s head turned slowly toward her.

“We don’t need one in the next nine months,” she said holding up her hands in surrender.

“Okay, but you said—”

“I said there was no guarantee, but we’re not exactly not trying to have a kid,” she said, splaying his hand palm up and teasing it with her fingers. “And if it happens, I’d rather not add on.”

“You sure you wanna carry my baby?” he questioned.

“At some point,” she said.

“And what point would that be?” he asked.

“Maybe when that ring you aren’t hiding well in the drawer makes its way to me.”

“Have you been snooping?” His eyes narrowed, but there was no anger behind in them.

“Spot told me all about it,” she lied.

“Not Callum and Maisie?”

“Why would Callum and Maisie know?” she wondered.

“Because I needed to ask their permission,” he replied honestly. “No reason to ask if they were going to veto it.”

“What did they want in order to say yes?” she asked.

“We’re in negotiations about another pet,” he replied. “And Maisie said she thinks I need to shave my beard.”

“Why?”
