“It is,” Amber conceded. “It’s not like Maisie even liked him. I bet she came to the stairs just to make sure it wasn’t him.”

“And Callum?” Brandy asked.

“Callum will be disappointed, but not sad. I’m sure.”

“So, how did you catch your lying, cheatin’ man?” Brandy asked before finishing off her glass letting Amber knew it was time to put her own down, as her phone rang.

“Holy, fuck me who is that?” Brandy’s eyes widened a bit at the image Amber had taken at the park of Mountain to add to the name Sexy Man in her saved contacts.

“Speak of the devil,” Amber said.

Brandy snatched the phone from her.

“This, this is the man?” Brandy asked, the phone irritating in the ring that would soon hit voice mail.

“Yes and now he’s gone,” Amber said. “It doesn’t matter.”

“Okay, what did the fucktard do?”

“I went for an interview in Turnabout Creek at their clinic because I lost my job.”

“What? When?” Brandy asked. “No, how could they fire you?”

“So many ways, but whatever, he’s with that group of bikers and well I went across the street to meet him for lunch—”

“At the strip club?” Brandy asked. “I mean I know they have good food, but really?”

“Yes, he called it the bar—anyway I stepped in there and some girl was between his legs.”

“Doing her job or you know—” Brandy closed her fist and moved it while poking her cheek with her tongue. “A job.”

Amber hadn’t really considered the former. “Well, you heard about that bad crash right?”

“On the interstate, yeah. Why?”

“Well, she was on the back of his bike then,” she reasoned.

“And then she gave him a lap dance?” Brandy’s face twisted a bit.

Amber’s story wasn’t as horrific as finding Mountain on the floor naked with Ginger or Cinnamon or Paprika sitting unsatisfied on a couch.

When her phone rang again, Brandy hit speaker to answer.

“Hello.”

“Listen, don’t hang up on me.” Mountain sounded out of breath.

“What do you want?” Amber was irritated, tequila, Brandy’s way too valid of a point and her own stupid desire making her pick up the dish towel to wipe up the spilled margarita.

“That woman you seen me with yesterday means nothing to me. She is a club Hoez and I don’t love her and I’m not with her.”

“Then why was she all over you in the restaurant?”

“It’s her job and she was dancing. I was just about to put her aside and tell her I wasn’t interested when you walked in. Listen, she means nothing. I want you. We’re having a picnic and bonfire in celebration of Baldy coming home and I’m becoming a member with a couple other men. I really want you and the kids to come. It’s this Wednesday, I guess kids are out of school. Please say you’ll come?”

Brandy’s eyes widened, urging Amber on.

“So she means nothing to you?”
