Amber’s doorbellrang and she flipped her phone over, wondering who was outside, assuming she’d missed a text from someone, anyone at this point, but she was greeted by the smiling faces of Maisie and Callum on her lock screen. Peeking through the curtains, she saw her friend Brandy. The instant bond they had came less than a week into her arrival in Berrington and the woman was just who she needed today.

Less than a day since she’d seen Mountain and all she’d been doing was thinking about him. Obsessing in a way from the constant thoughts of him as if they’d been together for ten years, not a ten hours. The best way to move on and set herself up was some girl time. With the kids off in their own world of play, Brandy’s arrival was exactly what she needed to keep her from spinning the dish towel or finding herself caught up in the smell of leather somehow trapped in house.

“Brandy. Welcome, come on in.” Opening the door wide she smiled, then turned to the landing where Maisie had rushed to see who was at the door.

“Hey Brandy.” Maisie waved. “Is Bella with you?”

“No, sorry kiddo,” Brandy replied. “Dad’s weekend.”

Maisie’s face dropped as she turned on her heel and headed back to her bedroom with hard stomps.

“Gee Amber, I was just in the neighborhood and wondered if you wanted to drink with me.” She held up a bottle of tequila. “Should we call down Maisie and make it hat trick?”

Laughing Amber nodded. “It’s that kind of day isn’t it. Come on, let’s go in the kitchen, and grab some shot glasses. Oh, wait never mind I have margarita mix, let’s do those instead?”

“Sure, that sounds perfect.” Brandy followed her into the kitchen.

Grabbing the blender and two large glasses, Amber put everything, including the rest of the ingredients for the margaritas on the counter. Then pouring the mix and ice, she added the tequila to the blend. “Alright woman, tell me what’s going on that you wanted to drink today?” Amber finished pouring the tequila to the blender before hitting start.

“The usual, problems of the male variety. I found my man was cheating on me so wedding’s off.” Brandy’s news dropped like a hot, buckwheat pancake.

She and Brandy had both been hot off divorces when they met and the bond had them commiserating. Brandy had been the bold one, dropping Bella off to hit girl’s night at Amber’s. For a while, Amber dated vicariously through her friend, but when she got serious, the stories of crazy nights and even crazier morning afters were done.

“Oh man, I’m sorry. Well this will shock you, but I’m having the same kind of week. I thought I actually met a new man, but he turned out to be with someone and I’m not breaking that up.” Amber finished the drinks then poured the mix into the glasses.

“Really? That’s kind of duchy.” Brandy took a glass and Amber followed suit. With a quick clink of glasses, they each took a very needed long drink.

It was delicious just what she needed. “How’d you catch Paul?” Amber asked.

“Um, well, my phone buzzed because his dumb ass butt dialed me,” Brandy said before refilling the bit of margarita in her glass. “Then I heard his voice, her voice, laughing, giggling, fucking.”

“You heard the fucking?”

“More her fake orgasm bullshit,” Brandy said, this time sipping from the top of her glass. “Oh, baby, oh Paul, fill me up, it’s so good, more, more.”

“Wow,” Amber replied needing her own drink to wipe away the visual.

“So I hung up, put on my phone tracker, and headed over there,” Brandy snarled. “Luckily, it was less than five minutes away and while I loved Paul, without his little blue helpers his ass wasn’t gonna keep up that pace. If nothing else, I could catch him as he pulled up his pants because if he was snuggling with that bitch, it was going to go down.”

“Do I want to know what happened?”

“Before or after I pinned the probably fake cubic zirconia ring to his front tire with a knife.”

“I only get one choice?” Amber laughed before drinking away the idea of it all.

“No bitch, just making sure you were paying attention.” Brandy beamed and went back for another swallow. “I walk up to this ranch style home. Front window curtains open and his ass buck naked on the carpet. The woman was on the couch scrolling through her phone.”

“Damn.”

“Yeah, thought he might have died laying out like that, but no, he was powering up for a second round. He hasn’t givin’ my ass a first round in weeks. Weeks, I tell you and we’re damn hot to trot engaged supposed to be lovey dovey.” Brandy’s hands swung a bit wildly sending a splash of frosty goodness across the room.

Amber spied her own glass. Unsure if it was the rage or the tequila causing the issue.

“You know what pisses me off most,” Brandy said, her hand wrapped around the glass with her finger pointed. “Bella, she loves him and now when she gets back from her dad’s, what do I have to do. Tell her she’s not my flower girl. Daddy Paul isn’t going to be there anymore. You were right to not date.”

“And yet, I tried.” Amber sighed.

“Yeah, but tried, this is still early right?”
