They both followed the kids and Mountain scooped Callum up in his arms as Maisie bounded up the steps leading up to the rooms. “One more level, then down the hall. My room is this way.” He scooted in front of Maisie then led up the stairs to his door. “Okay kids, let’s get you in there. I have a bathroom you can both use and I bet I can find two t-shirts that you can wear to bed.”

“Thank you,” Amber said.

He opened the door and put his index finger and thumb between his lips and blew.

A calico kitten, jumped from a perch by the window and onto Mountain’s shoulder, her tail wrapping around his neck.

“You’re a pirate,” Callum laughed.

Maisie had her hands together holding in a squeal.

“Spot, these are my friends,” he said as if the animal understood his commands. Once again, Mountain knelt.

Maisie and Callum in turn held their closed fist to the cat’s nose and after being approved of Spot jumped to the bed and sat. Accepting pets and scratches on either side of her neck from the kids then Mountain showed them how to hand wrestle with her as his hand covered Spot’s belly and rolled her on her back. The cat kicked her back paws like a rabbit on his forearm while biting at his hand, but not rough. Much like Creature, they knew the way to be vicious, but didn’t engage in the death grip or skin puncturing action.

After they got the kids ready for bed, Spot laid between them accepting cuddles as Mountain covered them up.

Amber kissed each of their foreheads. “Go to sleep. I’ll be checking on you so no playing with the kitten you both have to go to sleep.”

“We will Mom.” Maisie smiled.

“Night Mom.” Callum snuggled down with Spot lying next to his hand. He reached out and patted the kitten. “He is so cute.”

“Yes, she is.” Mountain reminded Callum Spot was a girl.

“Let’s go for a walk.” Mountain urged Amber as they left the room after both kids were nearly asleep. His hand brushing back a bit of hair from in front of her eye and cupping her cheek.

The warmth made her eyes flutter a bit, as she rested her head in his palm.

Leaning down, he brought his lips to hers and she melted against his body as her hand rested in the center of his chest. When they broke from the embrace, she fell into the softness of his eyes.

“We better go.” He nodded.

“I’m excited to see these houses.” Amber took his offered hand and they walked through the clubhouse and outside. He led the way toward the new builds that they had started on the compound. “But I told you I’m not moving.”

“Or, you weren’t because old Cinnamon was trying to sprinkle herself all over me.” He squeezed her hand lightly as they made their way to the circle of houses, framed in enough they could spend the winter doing the interior work. “You still sure you want to live by your noisy neighbor?”

Stepping through the framed in door of the first home she could see the roughed in open concept home. Exterior walls were in place, but the windows hadn’t been hung yet. This was a two story and she wandered up the stairs with Mountain’s hands guiding her at her waist.

“Seemed pretty noisy here today,” she said as she stepped into what she figured would be the master bedroom. “But then again it was a party.”

“It is noisy here,” he admitted and gripped the top of the frame for the door of the en suite after she stepped through. His shirt pulling up a bit at his waist to show a light dusting of hair and a slight V at his hip. “But that’s why these are away from the clubhouse.”

“So it’ll be quiet here,” she said resting on what would be the counter, crossing her right foot behind her left ankle, and glancing over her shoulder at him. “Even with Chaos and Mayhem living so close.”

“Probably not, especially since Mayhem seems to idolize Maisie.”

“It’ll pass,” Amber said, not sure she wanted to turn around to face him.

“It hasn’t for me,” he said stepping inside the room. Heat scorched the back of her as his hands slipped around her belly and his beard tickled her neck as he leaned down. “The more I see of you Nightingale, the more I want.”

“So I should sell my house and buy this one?” she questioned.

“No,” he replied, kissing the column of her neck as her arm snaked around and fingers curled in his hair. “There’s a bit of property not far from here, I’m interested in buying.”

“Is that so?”

“Ranch land,” he said as his hands split, the left one traveling under her shirt sending waves over her flesh and the second popped the top button of her jeans. Fingers slipping between the denim and lace she wore.
