“Damn,” I commiserated.

He chuckled. “Dakota you don’t know the half of it. I’d give anything to be there with you and Jace right now. I haven’t seen him in… oh man. I can’t even remember.”

I felt bad now. My brother didn’t exactly sound depressed, but he was definitely down. I’m sure the mention of Hawaii had him missing his friend. Or at least missing out on the old times we’d shared together.

“If you run into him, give him a hug for me,” said Tyler.

My stomach dropped. I felt terrible.

“I will,” I promised.

“A good one, too,” my brother added. “I kind of… well, we kind of lost touch with each other a couple years back. Which is probably my fault as much as his.”

“Go ahead and text him then,” I smiled. “I’m sure he’ll be thrilled to hear from you.”

We said our goodbyes, and I hurried back to where the guys already had the Bronco running. I hopped into the back seat alongside Merrick, just as Jace threw the truck into reverse.

“Your phone’s about to go off,” I told him, as he looked over his shoulder to back up.

Jace paused, stepping on the break. Right on cue, his phone buzzed.

“It’s Tyler,” I told him, watching his eyes go wide.

“Tyler?”

“Yeah,” I smiled weakly. “Apparently you’re supposed to hook up with me and take me to dinner.”
