“Good,” I declared. “Number two, I really need to talk about something. Something I can’t really tell my existing friend group, because… well...”

“They’ll cast judgment?”

My face lit up. She understood.

“Yes.”

Naomi brought her milky-white, sugar-filled mug to her lips and took a long, satisfying sip. If she could stir it with a rock-candy stick, I knew she would.

“Was this something that happened in Hawaii?” she asked.

“Oh yeah.”

“Something juicy?”

Her eyes flashed in a way that told me she was hungry for gossip. I knew right then and there I was going to like this girl.

“Juicy enough that you’re going to need a bib and a raincoat,” I teased.

For the next hour or so I settled into my seat and went over the whole, sordid tale. I started with Jace, and our relationship growing up. I went on to explain how he’d called to ask me to play the part of his wife, and even pulled my faux wedding rings from my pocket to show her.

“You still carry the rings around?” she asked.

It was something I hadn’t even thought about. “Umm… yeah. I guess I do.”

“That’s fine,” Naomi smiled. “Go on!”

I told her about Jace, about Merrick, about Aurelius. I described each one in jaw-dropping, panty-soaking detail, too. Like a schoolgirl gushing about her latest crush.

Crush? That’s funny.

It felt amazingly cathartic to talk about them again, even to what amounted to a total stranger. Maybe it was evenbecauseshe was a stranger, although not for long. Naomi wouldn’t judge me for what happened. In fact, I had a feeling she’d egg me on.

When I got to the really juicy parts, I left nothing out. I gave hereverything, leaning in and lowering my voice so that she could experience every sensual thrill, every life-altering sexual moment, by living vicariously through me.
