“You know what this means, don’t you?” he asked.
“Off-roading at night?” I asked, practically skipping toward the sales door. “Parking under the stars in the middle of nowhere?”
“It means you’re stuck here now,” Merrick pointed out.
“What do you meanstuckhere?”
“With us,” he grinned. “You’ve got a home, an office, and now a lease agreement, too. You can’t go back. You’re a full-fledged Coloradoan now.”
“Coloradoan?”
“Yup.”
I laughed merrily. “Is that even a word?”
“If it’s not it should be,” he shrugged. “But yeah. I’m pretty sure it’s a word.”
I patted my girl on the hood on the way past; an ocean blue Wrangler with charcoal grey trim. Maybe she came with a car payment, but she came with a lot of other things too. Things like pride. Accomplishment. Freedom.
An all new beginning.
Merrick held the door for me, ushering me inside. I kissed him on the cheek as I passed, thinking about all the things we’d accomplish together.
“You’re my favorite, baby. You know that, right?”
“I do,” he laughed. “I also know you say that toallthe guys.”
“So?” I smiled back. “Doesn’t make it any less true.”
I loved teasing them. I loved kissing them, touching them, waking up beside them. I loved being a part of their everyday life, from dawn to dusk and beyond. Best of all, I was starting to feel like I was apartof them. Like I was somehow on the inside of their tight-knit circle of camaraderie.
And that together, the four of us could rule the world.
